Amazon.com Review This single audiocassette version of yet another bestseller about caring for the soul is the Zeitgeist in a nutshell. The author's softly spoken message, aimed at people who feel that their lives have become overwhelmed by trivial demands and the shadow of stress, is a series of practical, homely tips on how to regain both perspective and control. The key is to remember--or rather, to learn to bear in mind--some simple truths that we already know. As Carlson observes, "when you die, your in-box won't be empty," so you should stress less about emptying it now. And a century from now we'll all be dead and gone--so things that seem blisteringly urgent now are really trivial, and will soon be forgotten. Carlson is particularly good on the importance of controlling self-pity, especially the sense that we are the ones doing all the hard work, which can be so damaging to our relationships with others. p Two kinds of people might be disappointed by this tape. Those who have already thought deeply about these issues are likely to be underwhelmed by advice such as "change what can be changed, and learn to accept what can't be changed." And those who expect a single cassette to transform their lives will find, not surprisingly, that Carlson is much better at saying what we should do than at explaining how we can do it. But he reads well, and for overtaxed people who don't expect a miracle cure, the message on this tape could be a small first step to a saner life. (Running time: 90 minutes, one cassette) I--Richard Farr/I

DISAPPOINTED, BUT THEY MADE UP FOR IT January 1, 2009 chipgal (New Jersey) I bought this book for a gift and it had been described as Like New. I was shocked when I received it to see that it had a price sticker on it and the pages were yellow highlighted. I complained to the sender and they apologized and refunded my money plus shipping charge. They seemed sincere, so I would say give them a try.
I liked this book... December 24, 2008 B. Keilani (Ilsan, South Korea) My dear brothers and sisters who try to make it the best you can, just like me, in this thing call life, I feel you. I didn't buy this book. I heard about it years ago. I thought the title was corny, and the title seemed like it was cliche like in my mind. However, a co-worker lent it to me after seeing how I went through a job from hell after coming to the new place and other things happened to me as well. Well, I read this book. The ideas are very simple. There is something anyone can take away from. I like what it says about how we deal with stress, look at the past. For me that was very important. It seems to have the influence of Zen in a way that is very digestible for the common person.
GREAT LITTLE BOOK! December 24, 2008 Kym McNabney (Illinois) Great little book. Very inspiring. A quick read. One of those books everyone should read. It will change your life.
Okay December 7, 2008 N. Corona (Austin, Texas, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
While everything the book says is true, it's nothing you couldn't figure out with common sense or by reading any given page of the New Testament. It was an easy read, so I probably could've finished it at a book store in about an hour and saved myself some money.
Read- And Perspire No More! December 5, 2008 Lisa T. 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
The cover of this book says it was a bestselling book of the year at one time. After opening it up and glancing through it, it't not hard to see why. br / br /The pupose of the book is to get you to look at things, common situations we all come across everyday, like being criticized or being given more work than you can possibly finish, and see them a little differently. Believe it or not, it delivers- and in just a page or two at a time if you can believe that! br / br /That's because the wisdom is definitely there, on every page, and it just plain makes sense. Many times I've read a chapter or two and thought, "Why didn't I think of that before?". br / br /The other good thing about this tiny book is that you could either sit down and read it cover-to-cover, or just pick it up once in awhile and pick a random chapter to read. Either way, the mini-chapters are sure to quickly leave most readers wondering why they make such a big deal out of the things they do. Other short self-help books I like include Finding Happiness in a Frustrating World.
