Here he blasts the draft and draft registration, impositions on the right of individuals to own guns, restrictions on the freedom to speak and write, and draws out the links between all these policies. Paul further discusses the tie between individual liberties and sound money. When a nation's money is controlled by the people instead of the state, they retain their essential freedoms. But when money is monopolized by government with no tie to a commodity, the state is in a position to ride roughshod over our liberties. This book was written in the late 1980's, but it could have been wriiten yesterday and you couldn't tell the difference. Everything he discusses is still very relevant, perhaps even more so now. His book "Revolution: A Manifesto" was an easy read, a begginers introduction to liberty, if you will. "Freedom Under Seige" has a lot more substance. This books also sees Dr. Paul discussing issues that you do not hear him discuss near enough. He usually discusses monetary policy and foreign policy, and is always dead on with his views on these subject. he discusses these topics in "Freedom Under Seige as well, but He also discuss many other constitutional issues like conscription and gun control. Ron Paul is a true patriot. His books should be required reading in school.

I just finished this one today after reading 'The Revolution: A Manifesto' This was just as good. Written over 20 years ago it gives an excellent example of just how completely consistent Ron Paul is. br / br /If this book had been read by the masses in 1988, many of the problems we face today could have been at the least minimized or quite possibly even fixed by now. br / br /It reads well and is hard to put down until you get to the chapter on economics. br / br /I realized while reading the economics chapter that because the subject is frankly dull, we have for too long ignored it and trusted that others know how to run the economy. br / br /I understand now that they do. They know exactly how to transfer wealth to themselves and keep us in the dark. br / br /I read the whole chapter again, you should too. br / br /If you can only get one book, get 'The Revolution: A Manifesto'. I promise after reading it you will be back to get the rest.

My favorite RP book to date, this 1987 essay defines Individual Rights (life, liberty and property), how the Constitution was designed to protect them, and how our corrupted government is taking them away. How? By taxation, inflation, land confiscation, by generally exceeding its enumerated powers and (in the past) military conscription. br / br /The Individual's rights section is excellent, laying out the libertarian view of the proper (minimalist) role of government in a free society, 'moral law' as opposed to 'legislating morality,' and how a free society is superior to others (socialism, communism, fascism, etc). Dr Paul also describes how collectivism (group think) has contributed to the erosion of these rights. br / br /Reading this book should bring the reader up to speed for his new Manifesto! It lays the foundation for all of his current policies, including honest money, a truly free market and re-establishing a small, transparent Constitutional government.

Anyone familiar with Ron Paul knows that he is a staunch supporter of the Constitution and the rights of the people. Sadly, he is a dying breed in our government. In his book, Freedom Under Siege, he simply destroys arguments for big government and shows how whether you are a Democrat or Republican, you probably have been fooled into supporting unconstitutional policies with little backing historically. What amazes me most is that Dr. Paul's logic and understanding of our nation's history is so complete. If you like reading about controversial topics in America today and need some grounding historically in these areas, such as the Draft or Welfare, then buy this book.
