Amazon.com essential video After the box-office success of IPhenomenon/I, John Travolta continued to charm audiences with this 1996 comedy-fantasy in which he plays a grubby angel who's got one last good deed to do before heading back to heaven. Living peacefully in the rural Iowa home of an old, friendly motel owner (Jean Stapleton), the winged Michael (Travolta) is hardly the image of a perfect angel. He's scruffy, unshaven, eats sweetened cereal by the box-full and chain-smokes all day long. But when tabloid reporters (William Hurt, Robert Pastorelli) learn of Michael's alleged existence and head to Iowa to check him out, Michael soon realizes that it's his task to see that Hurt falls in love with an "angel expert" (Andie MacDowell) and breaks free from his habitually cynical attitude. There's more to the story, of course (and IChasing Amy/I fans will recognize Joey Lauren Adams as a waitress who charms the angel), but IMichael/I is more about the effect that this enchanting angel has on the earthbound humans around him. Whether he's chipping away at Hurt's skepticism or attracting a crowd of women on a truck-stop dance floor, Michael is an enchanting figure, and Travolta plays him with just the right tone of humor, reverence, and effervescent charm. Sure, it's lightweight fluff, but director Nora Ephron specializes in lightweight fluff, and Michael is the kind of feel-good movie that never wears out its welcome. I--Jeff Shannon/I

why is this not widescreen? December 26, 2008 J. Daniels (Claremore, Oklahoma United States) I can't believe this is not widescreen. Please make that more apparent when you're ordering something from Amazon. That's so annoying. Why are you even still selling full screen without some type of very obvious moniker? I'm extremely disappointed.
Angel touches Angel October 21, 2008 Michael F. Sims (Hillsboro, OR USA) I was especially moved by the short, but obviously meaningful relationship between Michael (Travolta) and the adorable server Anita (played by the boundlessly adorable Joey Lauren Adams). When Anita came out of the hotel room happily dancing in the early morning sun, it seemed as if something much more than sex - something wonderful and life-changing - had happened to her during her night with Michael. It was a very sweet moment in a terrific film.
Love this movie September 18, 2008 Elena Skyhawk (Rapid City, SD) I first saw this movie years ago and had the opportunity to buy it recently. I have to say this is one of the best movies I've seen. John Travola plays the part of an ArchAngel. He definetly doesn't fit the "typical" view of an angel. The story is sad and funny and has some very poingant moments. There are also lessons being taught in the movie. I've watched it twice in the last few weeks and each time I pick up things that I've missed the first time around.
Michael August 7, 2008 C. Dorian One of the only movies I've ever purchased. The story is enjoyable and uplifting. Everyone is cast perfectly...even the dog. br / br /
