Product Description Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 09/27/2005
Amazon.com It's easy to see why this is one of the bestselling sing-alongs from Disney: it plays like the ultimate family-vacation home movie. Instead of fleeting glimpses of your favorite characters on your home videos of Disneyland, this 27-minute episode showcases Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, and their friends hanging out with kids inside the Magic Kingdom singing (well, their lips don't move) such popular songs as " Zip a Dee Do Dah," "It's a Small World," and "Step in Time" with the lyrics appearing on screen for youngsters. The one drawback is the video was shot in 1990, so none of the newer rides are shown, and worse yet, some older rides seen aren't around anymore ("Mom, why didn't we go on the submarine?"). Perhaps that isn't a drawback since, despite the age, and some truly unknown songs ("Making Memories"), the program continues to be popular. --Doug Thomas

best sing a long movie ever! October 3, 2008 H. Somers (Saline, MI) My kid just loves this movie she sings and dances along and watches it over and over! So Fun for the whole family we like to watch it on the plane on the way to Disney too! FUN FUN FUN
Great for young toddlers! September 18, 2008 E. B. Vahrenkamp (Illinois, USA) My 19 month old is obsessed with this DVD! He loves the songs and the characters, and sees new things each time he watches it. Yes, it's cheesy and essentially a 30 minute commercial for Disneyland, but it's not nearly as annoying as a lot of the kids' DVDs out there. Also, the French version is quite entertaining - if you understand French, it's interesting to see how some of the songs are translated.
Great fun - plus an easter egg! August 21, 2008 J. Nisbet (Southern CA, United States) The other reviewers have good points, but I don't think anyone has mentioned what I think is the most fun feature on this DVD! But more on that in a moment. First, the people giving negative reviews have two good points - this thing IS a little dated, and the song "Grim Grinning Ghosts" can be scary for young kids. (I can't remember any other major criticisms...) Having said that, I really like the return to 1989: Big hair! Guys wearing pink (non-ironically)! The PeopleMover! Party Gras! It's a little like watching one of those World of Disney shows from the Sixties. My kids didn't like the song "GGG" at first, but I watch it with them, and we discuss the relevant issues - that it's just pretend, that there are people in those costumes, and that sometimes it's fun to be scared. I think they'll be ready for the Mansion next time we go to Anaheim... But there's so much more to love on this video! The songs are fun, and it's great to learn some of these lyrics to sing along at the park. I can no longer walk down Main Street without humming the catchy second song on the disc, and the up-tempo "Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah" is cool, complete with the requisite horrible rap break in the middle (so common in the Eighties). And since it was 1989, they were also trying to cram Roger Rabbit down our throats at every opportunity (sorry, Roger - great attraction, but you're not a "classic")! The most fun, though, is sort of an easter egg, and I haven't heard anyone else mention it. On the "set up" menu for the DVD, it gives you the option to switch the language to French. Haven't tried it? I don't blame you, I don't speak French either. But when you choose that option, instead of just a translation, you get an entirely different video - shot at Disneyland Paris! It's a beautiful park, and the video shows some things I've heard of, but never seen, like Alice's Curious Labyrinth and the dragon lying in wait beneath the castle. Plus, the Phantom Manor song features the mysterious Phantom himself, and a real treat for Haunted Mansion geeks: a beating-heart Bride face character! To sum up: * Yes, the video is dated and a bit dorky, but there are those of us that embrace that sort of thing. * The Haunted Mansion is creepy, so don't leave your kids there alone. * Roger Rabbit was never as successful a franchise as Disney had hoped. * Disneyland looks pretty much the same today as it did twenty years ago (except Tomorrowland, which does not look as modern now as it did then). * And even if you don't speak French, Disneyland Paris is a great place to spend part of your day.
Getting Ready for Disney! August 3, 2008 Robert Jackson (Middle Village, NY United States) Wow! What a great video to prepare your children for the Big trip to Disney! This video highlights songs and characters and Disney attractions. My 4 and 2 year old boys love to watch this DVD and in my opinion has well prepared them for our trip. Just wish it was a bit more up to date. The video features Roger Rabbit...and early 90's attire and hairstyles. (At least the styles give my wife and I a good laugh!)
Fun and oddly nostalgic June 2, 2008 M. Harp (Gilbert, AZ) OK, this video is for my 4 and 2 year olds but I find it charming and strangely reflective. It was shot in the early 90's right about the time I was graduating from high school so the scenery and fashions really bring back some memories. It also provides a time-capsule look at rides gone past like the People Mover, Skyway, the OLD Tom Sawyer's Island, Tomorrowland before the makeover and more. The kids love it too and seem to really enjoy the "Main Street USA" and "Step-N-Time" sequences. Good production values and fun for the kids.
