Working with Donna were renowned writers and producers including: Greg Kurstin (Lilly Allen, Pink), Danielle Brisebois (Natasha Bedingfield, New Radicals), JR Rotem (Sean Kingston, Rihanna), Evan Bogart (co-writer of Rihanna's smash "SOS" and the son of legendary record executive, Casablanca Records founder and Donna's mentor, Neil Bogart), and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana).

I tried soooo hard to like this new effort because of my love for Donna Summer. I played this over and over, not consistantly, but at different times to see if I would feel differently about it. Unfortunately, I could not. br / br /Crayons, the title track, is the best song off of the cd, in my opinion. I got a reminiscent glimpse of the old/new Donna on the verge of emerging. You know the one...? Solidifying her own style of music, phrasing and likability. Different, fun...you remember?. br / br /Driving down Brazil gave me the same feeling the first two times I heard it but on the third listen I began to be disappointed and annoyed. The something old mixed with the something new began to remind me of an old diva wanting desperately to be remembered by the old and respected by the new. Forgetting she became who she is by calling her own creative shots and not by following others, begging to be accepted into the musically inclined fold. Especially with styles that aren't so great to begin with. br / br /Example; Sand on my feet has an overly used recipe of cutesy down to earth, folksy, everybody like it, sing along song style. It became annoying pretty quickly as well. br / br /I won't go thru every song, I am not a licensed critic. Although, some who are shouldn't be. I can say I know what I like and have an opinion. br /Although I may like an artist I won't look over the things I don't like about a project just because I like the artist. br / br /Donna Summer, like many seasoned artists who have not lost their voice or flavor, lose their nerve when it comes to creativity or remembering how they got to where they are; Taking chances and not following the status quo was key to becoming what most other artist could not. Not exactly becoming greater but becoming their own different light on the music industry, not by standards of what radio stations or execs say will work and most times do not. br / br /I really wanted to like this new effort by Miss Summer because her vocals are still powerful, distinctive and with plenty skills but in good conscience I could not. As a true fan I could not forgive myself, if I had. She took her song slide over backward literally by taking backward steps that were all too unnecessary for a still skillful lady.

As a blue blooded, "Mowtown" girl, 39 years old for several years now, this my new workout Album - no doubt. I was blown away by our girl Donna Summer who turns songs to gold just by her touch. Just buy it and dance your tush off!

This album is way beyond expectation. Summer is back to her peak form. It is a modern dance oriented album. It is not just for Summer fans. In fact it has very little like her disco era materials. br / br /Give this modern Summer a try. br /

During her extraordinary run from the mid-'70s to early '80s, Donna Summer reigned supreme as the "Queen of Disco" and "The First Lady of Love." Ultimately, she was the only disco performer to make a meaningful transition to pop and pop/rock ("She Works Hard for the Money," "Unconditional Love," "The Wanderer," et al). With this, her first all-new album in 17 years, Miss Summer attempts to recapture past glories. Unfortunately, she fails. What we have here are some very pedestrian, cookie-cutter dance grooves that are interchangeable with so many routine hip-hop recordings these days. br /Donna, you had a great run, but it's over now.
