Amazon.com IStanding in the Shadows of Motown/I is a must-see film for any fan of the Supremes, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, or any other classic Motown stars. This swinging documentary celebrates the Funk Brothers--the team of studio musicians who powered dozens and dozens of hit Motown songs--by combining reminiscences, reenactments, and clips from a recent concert put on by the Funk Brothers, featuring singers like Chaka Khan, Ben Harper, and Joan Osborne on classic tunes like "What's Going On," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," and "Heatwave." This crafty gang of elderly musicians will charm your pants off with a slew of entertaining anecdotes. Though it seems that there's a lot of dirt they're declining to dish, the movie deftly outlines the history of Motown, surely the most significant music label in American history--the label that turned segregated "race music" into chart-topping success. A soulful delight. I--Bret Fetzer/I

Standing In The Shadows Of Motown January 8, 2009 Anthony W. Brobeck (Johnson City, Tn.) I bought this dvd around three years ago for myself. A couple of friends borrowed it and looked high and low for the dvd. I purchased it off of a bargain table. My friends found out that the dvd was out of production. After searching for three months they finally located one in a dvd store and the other on line. Now motown is back in production. I bought this dvd on Amazon for my son. This is one of the best documentary of the Funk Brothers, who play all the music for all the great songs that came out of Motown. If you are a music lover, you will love Standing In The Shadows of Motown.

insightful and amazing January 6, 2009 Gerald Johnson (stockton , Ca) Standing in the shadow of motown is an amazing documentry of american musical history. What makes it so amazing is the fantastic and unique talents of the musicians called "The Funk Brothers", and the fact that many of the classic motown hits were acts of musical spontaneity composed on impulse, and elaborated with unique and sophisticated talents that rendered the resulting product timeless and classic.
A Must Have January 6, 2009 motown momma This is a "must have" for any Motown fan. The documentary and music is awesome, providing some little known facts about the band that helped give Motown artists their great sound. The DVD is hard to find in stores and the price was a bargain!
