Anyone familiar with cultish comedy series Flight of the Conchords will be aware of the wonderful songs that the hapless New Zealand duo Bret and Jemaine concoct for each episode. Tackling all genres, from hip hop and soul to glam rock, the duo create highly original and well-produced tracks that typically satirise the very genre they?re imitating. This album collects together many of the show?s best musical moments, many of them subtly revamped. "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Boom" illustrate the pair?s hilarious 'rap' skills. "Think About It" parodies socially minded soul visionaries such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, "Bowie" satirises the 70s icon (especially his prodigious drug use), while "Inner City Pressure" mimics the Pet Shop Boys. Two of the most memorable songs from the series--"The Prince of Parties" and "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"--are also both present, making this the definitive FOTC compilation. The humour ranges from offbeat to downright daft, but there's nothing laughable about the production, which is mostly first class. It's true they could have given us a few new songs, but then how many comedy albums can you repeatedly rewind and find yourself not only laughing, but dancing too?--Paul Sullivan

5 out of 5 stars Genius   December 3, 2008

Wow, so clever. The lyrics are great, the tunes are funky. Very funny and fun to listen while showing others. Amazing that this parody can match real albums, even top big albums out there. These guys have a gift of picking out the funny aspects of life and putting it to song. Well done!

4 out of 5 stars Clever catchy songs   October 28, 2008

Great songs on this CD. Well produced, good instruments and vocal performances, brilliant lyrics.
sad that "if you're into it" is not on this album, i think it is on the EP.
highlights include: Robots, Business Time, Inner City Pressure, Think About It

I really enjoy Flight of the Conchords, and their stand up routine. My problem with this album is with the way in which their material was sterilized.

Instead of simply recording the duo rehearsing their repertoire live, in front of an audience, they decided to go for a very over-produced, serious feeling which is not only not funny, it is down right awkward to listen to (and not the good kind of awkward!)

If you simply *must* own something by these performers, I would highly suggest either: Buying one of their stand up performances on DVD, or paying to see them preform live. Songs can be funny and comedians can be serious, but comedians preforming comical songs in a serious fashion is just not pleasant.

Conclusion: This album is a major PASS, however, the *content* of what was on this album is absolutely hilarious and most defiantly worth pursuing.

5 out of 5 stars Savant genius of sublime stupidly   October 19, 2008

I can't stop listening. While the show appeals to those with a sense of humor dryer than double O seven's martini, the music is the piece de resistance. With music like this, the fourth rated parity folk duo out of New Zealand will quickly rocket into third...

5 out of 5 stars Funny, funny, funny!!   October 6, 2008

I loved this CD. I watched the show on HBO and it brought back a lot of funny memories.
It may not be as funny to those who haven't seen the show.
