Works great for me. November 18, 2008 happy with it (West of the Atlantic) I actually got this for $60. Once I received it, I plugged it in, put some pictures on it and it works just great! This images are nice and clean. I'm not a professional, so I'm not interested in any small color shift, or anything else technical. I wanted something to show pictures of my wife and children - this does the trick just fine for me. The docs don't say how much internal storage there is, but I was going to get a card for it anyway.
Norcent Won't Support Bad Products November 18, 2008 T. Northcutt (Columbia, SC USA) I purchased a Norcent camera the wouldn't operate after one week. I returned the camera in August (its now November) and haven't received a replacement. Cannot reach the company via phone (mailbox is full) or e-mail (error undeliverable). Go to their website and try to reach them for yourself. Company must be out of business. Don't buy their unsupported products.
Good if you can get it for a good price. September 29, 2008 Pug Ster (New York, NY) I got this for $60 plus tax from another site. The picture frame looks very nice in an 'expensive' wood and metal frame, although I would a prefer larger screen with a smaller frame. The other reviewers say that it comes with software, but mine's comes with no software, so I had to get my own software to resize pictures to 800x600 and upload it to the picture frame. There are several good things about this Norcent PF801. The screen resolution is 800x600 while alot of the cheaper picture frames are 480x360 or even worse 480x272 for those cheaper widescreen picture frames. Personally, I hate these manufacturers get cheap and make widescreen (16x9) picture frames when most pictures you take are full size frames (4x3). The screen resolution looks decent if you put in 800x600 pictures. Another bonus for this picture frame is that you can play .mp3's or slide mode where you can play pictures and mp3s at the same time. You can do this by putting .mp3s and .jpgs into one folder onto the flash or memory card. However, the speakers are kind of weak, but that is expected. Another reviewer mentioned that it players xvid and divx as well mpeg4 files. However, the movies you play stretches to the full size screen if you play 16x9 movies. There are some drawbacks about the picture frame. It does not have a mode where you can randomize the picture that you want to show. I have problems turning on the picture frame using the remote and I had to turn it on in the unit itself. This is a good product and I consider it as one step above than the cheap digital frames that you can get on Black Friday and it is worth the cost if you can get it cheap. I doubt that Norcent would provide firmware updates or decent support for this product otherwise I would give it 5 stars instead.
Pretty decent September 11, 2008 Bellbottom Dinosaur (Kali) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this as a refurb unit. The frame is pretty high grade, tilts, solid brushed metal and wooden frame (that frame is probably MDF with faux wood)... The looks match the "Executive" label on the box. Pretty slick. Comes with a desk foot, wall mount, and the snazzy desk mount pictured. Pretty much can install it as you wish. The software works well. Simple and clean. I have not noticed any freeze yet. small design flaws: The rotating frame allows just the right amount of space to plug in cards or usB cables. They are on the sides instead of top/bottom (buttons are at the top). Also there is no storage compartment for the remote. When you pull the digital frame from the frame (very easy), suddenly it's compact, 1/2 the size. It looks more plain -black plastic-, like a car DVD screen unit. Clean but not particularly snazzy. Photos in cards need to be selected via the menu. Built in memory is shown as slides directly. I agree with the shortcomings: Lacks random, and "slow" mode is way too fast. Photos look too soft too, but I have saved 800x600 pics in there. I will try to save higher res pics to see if it helps. I wonder why native resolution photos look poor. I also opened the frame to see inside if I could hack a larger LCD screen in place. As usual the screen has a custom connector, this one is split in two halves. No go. Internal electronics build looks very clean.
Looks Nice, but No Support and Horrible Software May 13, 2008 VKingPele (Arizona) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's a nice frame with good picture quality. It even includes a remote. I would not recommend it though, because of the amount of problems I have found. If you leave the frame cycling, then after a couple hours it will freeze on the first photo. the remote will also not work at this point either. I have also found that the remote will not work if you just let the frame sit for a day or so and then try to use it to turn on the frame. If you just plugged the frame in, then you need to turn it on manually before the remote will work. What I'm trying to say is that the remote will only work intermittently and is pretty much useless. Other problems I've found is that you need to rotate pictures on the computer I tried it with the frame, but on the next cycle the pictures return to there unrotated position. Also pausing in the middle of a slideshow with music will freeze both music and slideshow. Starting again will only start the pictures cycling and not the music. The other parts of the frame are pretty good. My reason for suggesting that you pass on the frame is the fact that tech support has no fix for these known issues and the company has no plans to make a fix. Horrible support.
