4 out of 5 stars Fair Price and Product   November 21, 2008
Solomon Lemma (Mill Valley, CA)
I am first time user who read as many reviews as I could to see which one would fit both my need and finance. I have tried to compare and contrast and finally decided to pick Magellan 4250. Of course, the price was so attractive and placed the order. When it arrived, it was mailed a kind of brand new Magellan with all the accessories which I was not aware of it. Wow! That was cool. The accessories cost almost half of the price I paid for the Magellan. I opened it right away and found its friendly-use so good and hit the road without doing anything and found it works!!! Well, so far I have been using it and have no problem at all. For $129.00 this is a great buy. One minor problem I have so far is, it sometimes get confused when conversation takes place and reminds you to say a command when you actually did not even send a voice command. I just want to let you know that the voice command works great but it sometimes might make you speak a little louder; for $129.00 buy, let Magellan be a deaf once in a blue moon. I hope I don't mean to be generous to give 4 stars but, I am convinced it deserves.

4 out of 5 stars My First GPS   November 19, 2008

I purchased the referb Magellan Maestro 4250, great price. I read reviews of others and decided to go with the 4250. The unit worked great for a day then stopped !!! I checked the website and D/L the firmware upgrade and installed it, no problems with the upgrade install. The unit has performed very well. I have a 90 day free traffic alert but so far I havn't needed it. The routes it calculates are pretty good. You may know a quicker shortcut but this will get you where you want to go. Double check the ST address, the unit is so-so on left or right side of the street. It recalculates directions quickly if you miss a turn or change plans. The female voice pronounces st names better than I would. Over all I am very happy with it and recommend it. This is my 1st GPS and I use it more than I thought I would.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value for your money   November 19, 2008

Based on previous reviews, I upgraded the firmware to the latest after registering the GPS on the Magellan web site (f/w upgrade is free). I chose to hold off on the $80 map update until I see what's lacking in my area - so far, no problems with missing or inaccurate information on the maps. I love the integrated AAA Tourbook incl. descriptions & ratings of restaurants, hotels and attractions. I've used that feature extensively when traveling and it saves a lot of time when trying to find a good place to eat in an unfamiliar city.

As of this date, there's no better value for your money. The Magellan 4250 is advertised for double the price I paid at local merchants.

5 out of 5 stars Recommended (this is my first GPS)   November 19, 2008

This is my first GPS and I like it because of its friendly menus, large screen and because Suzi (that's how I call the nice lady who talks to me) is a great company :)
Few issues: the first time I used it, it didn't locate itself and I needed to call the customer support (very patient, 10). Also, after turning it on it takes too long for it to locate itself (3-4 minutes).
Great Deal (just $130 from Amazon for refurbished product that seems to me new)
