It's a five-star movie, but as for the DVD... November 13, 2004 Ixion28 (N. Wilkesboro, NC USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The situation with this movie is simple; It's Nic Roeg's wonderful film of one of Roald ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") Dahl's typically brilliant children's books, and it is terrific. Funny, smart, bizarre, creepy, all that you could ask. As for the DVD release, well, if the studio will release a WIDESCREEN VERSION (Which this one should've been to begin with, jeez, what are these people thinking anyway?)in place of the crappy pan & scan version contained herein, then I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Until then, I can record it off of cable looking this lousy for free.
I'd give it a hundred stars if I could October 19, 2004 arntk519 (LA, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm not sure how long it's been since I first saw this movie...bu I know I've always lovd it so much. It's totaly magical and family friendly... No computer generated images. Very rare to find a good movie these days - but this one's definitly awesome!
Nice Film But October 15, 2004 Brent Hilton (Layton, Utah USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this film everybody did a good job in it, the only two things that are disappointing are that the sound is'nt as good as it should be and picture presented in pan & scan not widescreen , i think the guys at warners should issue an update version of this film with the sound in 5.1 i think this wonderful fun film should deserve it, with behind the scenes , deleted and other wonderful goodies. may this happen one day to this wonderful film. But all in all i'd highly recommend this for the ages of 9 & up
