The Vitches of Inkland January 25, 2005 In the beginning of this movie, there is one family with a mom, a dad, a boy named Luke and his grandmother. Shortly after the introduction of the movie, Luke's parents died and he had to live with his grandmother. The grandmother told Luke about the witches that lived in England. A short time after this, Luke had an encounter with a witch. Luke and his grandmother went to a hotel near the sea for the summer holidays, after school ended. On Luke's birthday, he received two mice and started to train them. He trained them in the ballroom behind a screen. While he was training them, a group of women came in and started a meeting. But something strange happened. Luke could tell that all of them were witches! The Grand High Witch told all the other witches about a plan to destroy all the children in England. After the meeting, some strange events occurred and the ending of Luke's vacation is not what you would expect!!! The Movie "The Witches" was very similar to the book "The Witches". The plotline of the movie was very similar to the plotline of the book. All of the main events are the same. Some examples are: Luke's parents are killed, he goes on vacation with his grandmother, and he meets the witches. The book is also similar in some detailed parts. The grandmother smokes cigars during the movie and the witches' meeting was almost exactly the same in the movie. There are also many differences between the book and the movie. In the beginning of the book, the grandmother catches pneumonia and is forced to cancel her plans to go to Norway. In the movie, the grandmother was never going to go to Norway, although she does get sick, but she develops diabetes instead of pneumonia. The movie was also different because it had more events that made it more suspenseful. Some of these events include when the grandmother said that she recognized the Grand High Witch and had gotten her finger cut off by her somehow. Also at the end of the movie, Luke's grandmother receives lots of money, which she didn't receive in the book. I recommend this book to kids in third to sixth grade. I also recommend this book to people who have read other fictional books or books written by Roald Dahl.
what really happen to all the kids January 25, 2005 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The movie and book "The Witches" By Dahl(the book was writen bu him) was really amazing. The book and movie was one of the best book and movie comparastion. Having to rate "The witches" i would rate it four (41/2) stars (****..*) out of five(5) stars. The witches is about a group or witches who dress up as real people and who have a plan to take over children and turn them into mice. It is also about this little boy who the witches get to and do turn into a mouse and about how is grandmother and him try and stop all of the witches from doing this to more people and thire children. The Witches is truly great both the book and the movie. The first time i read the book i was really amazed on how the aurther wrote the story and came up with such a plot. Then when i saw the movie i was even most blown away on how he director took the book and really made it come to life. They took every little deltail of the book and made it into the movie... it was really wonderful. Also the casting was done amazing! i think everyone really fit thire part and looked like thats where they should be. The person i was most amazed with was the main witch. In the book when i read the description the person who played it was exactly how i would imagen it. She is truly an amazing actresss. I think the movie and the book are a lot a like the begining and middle is almost idenentcial. The ending it a little diffent. They add a whole part on and it makes a bigg diffrece but its only the end so i cant even tell you what happens... i guess you'll just have to read and watch the movie to find out. Remeber its truly an amazing book AND movie!
Watch out for that potion! January 24, 2005 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
The Witches is a book about a boy and his grandmother who live in England. The boy's grandmother tells him everything there is to know about witches. One day the boy is caught by some witches. They use a potion to turn him into a mouse and suceed. The boy and his grandmother use the rest of the potion to turn the other witches into mice. I found it interesting how the author made witches have different appearences besides pointy hats and broomsticks. In this book the witches were bald, have no toes, square feet, and long claws.
Oh, 'M God! Witches!!! December 6, 2004 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This movie was great! It's about this boy who sees witches and hears their plan to turn all the kids in England into mice. Luke (the kid) mus save the children. One problem: he gets turned into a mouse and so does his friend. A great praformance by Anjelica Huston, who is the Grand-High-Witch. It Took A. Huston 8 hours to get into all her make up for the witch. - An Anjelica Huston Fan
Witches!Run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! December 4, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This movie was so freaky! I saw it at a sleepover, and my friend and I were spooked. It's about this kid who decovers the witches hideout and hears their plan. One problem: He gets turned into a mouse. So does his friend. Now, with only the help of a grandmother, he must defeat the witches supirior planning. Good luck- and please come back alive!
