5 out of 5 stars Fantastic product!   January 12, 2008

I would highly recommend this DVD set. If you are a Black Adder fan you can't go far wrong. All the episodes are here and there are even some extra Christmas specials and things that I was not expecting. It would have been nice to have some more extra features but that is a very small complaint and probably not a driving force in getting this in the first place.

5 out of 5 stars black adder - The complete set   January 7, 2008

The product arrived as promised on time and in excellent shape. All disks worked fine. It had been years since I had seen any of the Black Adder programs and this was my first chance to see all of them.

4 out of 5 stars To bean or not to bean   December 19, 2007

As one of the 1st reviewer said "if you are here you probably know and love the series". I came looking for reviews of the quality of the dvd's (I have all of the VHS including a Blackadder Christmas). I'm writing this review for Mr. Bean fans who haven't seen Bladder (ie. the negative reviews). Don't! You will not like it if you are here because you like Mr. Bean. This series has dialog, lots of it, witty, rude, funny dialog, where Mr. Bean has none.

I am not a fan of Mr. Bean at all, but I respect Rowan Atkinson and your right to like the bumbling dullard (I'm kidding!). He has two extremely successful series where the fans of one will probably not be fans of the other. I really can't imagine any other comic pulling that off and therein lies the genius of Mr. Atkinson.

Oh and for Bladder fans, I'm only giving it 4 stars because I thought series 4 was weak. The 1st series set the foundation for the evolution and when Edmund was finally king I think it should have ended the series. (the prince regent died in a duel and his daffed father thought Blackadder was his son and crowned him king). The best is series 2 (nursie & queenie what more is there to say...ploppy!)

5 out of 5 stars Black Adder rules the reenactment genre!   December 18, 2007

This is the best collection of medieval/renaissance historical comedy ever! I've been waiting for the collection to come out on DVD, after having the tapes for ages.

The collection is a set of situational sketches...much the same as "Yes, Minister" (and "Yes, Prime Minister").

Do not be turned off by Mr Bean goofiness. This is intelligent comedy for the tongue-n-cheek connoisseurs.

5 out of 5 stars I have a cunning plan...   December 4, 2007

I have a cunning plan...buy this set for more of my friends. I love all of the Blackadder characters and liked how their stations and relationships ebbed and flowed from year to year. It is a hoot to see Hugh Laurie, Miranda Richardson and Brian Blessed in ensemble with Rowan Atkinson. I particularly enjoyed the extra goodies on the disc.
