Superior adaptation of a wonderful children's book April 10, 2007 Innocent girl (Fort Washington, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've taken to reading the source material of a lot of movie adaptations with my seven year old (who has read E.B. White's Stuart Little and Trumpet of the Swan, both of which are shadows of the original stories albeit entertaining fare despite that). Not only does this adaptation stay true to the story, it does so without losing any of the impact of Matilda's quest to find her place in the world. What I particularly like is this strong female protaganist--I don't think there's a child who will watch this film who doesn't wish he or she were as strong, brave or gifted as Matilda. Both of my boys love this movie, although the little one hides during the assembly sequence (not that I blame him, it's pretty gross), and my older one insists that I sit with him during the Trunchbull's chase scene. Good family entertainment--this is one children's film that parents can and should watch with their kids.
A bit dark April 4, 2007 K. Correa (Salt Lake City, UT, USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
My kids like this movie, but I find it to model some pretty yucky behavior. My kids are 4 and 6. Might be more suitable for older kids.
Great Movie March 27, 2007 Ruth Coleman (Aliquippa, PA.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think "Matilda" is one of the sweetest movies ever. There is lots of different emotions throughout this flick that will have you , laughing, crying, scared, and heart-touched. A great family movie that every one should have in their collections.

We have such a good time watching Matilda as a family...we can watch it over and over! This is a great one for all ages!!
A truly excellent film February 1, 2007 Liviu Constantinescu (Sydney, Australia) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This film is brilliant in every way, and may well be my favorite film. It is cheerful, hopeful and cute, and more importantly it subtly passes on a lot of good lessons, and gives kids a positive role model in the titular character. In today's cultural climate, it's hard to raise responsible, clever children, or even to teach them the value of reading and learning. The world needs more films like this.
