This is, for any Blackadder fan, the absolute, ultimate, and last compilation you'd ever want. All episodes are there and some (although not an awful lot) extra materials.
The show, as you probably know, is brilliant. Actually getting better as the series moves on, right up to and including the thought provoking ending of series 4. The performances of the entire cast is absolutely wonderful. For "House, M.D." fans there is an opportunity to see a pre-House Hugh Laurie in the role of many a gormless upper class Englishman.
Highest possible recommendation.
Funnier than Mr. Bean?!? April 8, 2008 A great discovery! I've seen some of Rowan Atkinson's stand-up and of course Mr. Bean, but this series show the comedy genius of Mr. Atkinson. My favorite would be the fourth series. It reminds me of my time during bivouacs, just funnier. Great ending to the series! My one complaint, there aren't any more series to watch!
Not nearly as good as The Thin Blue Line February 16, 2008 0 out of 12 found this review helpful
We adore the Rowan Adkinson series, The Thin Blue Line, so looked foward with anticipation to seeing Black Adder. It has it's moments, but we did not enjoy it nearly as much. It is just a little too off-the-wall and ridiculous in parts.
I have a cunning plan... February 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What can you say about a TV show that still holds up to and surpasses anything still being produced today? Rowan Atkinson is perfect in each of the Blackadder characters he portrays. Each succeding generation of Blackadder just gets better and funnier. We watch these DVDs as often as we can. If you like any of the Black Adder series or Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Miranda Richardson, Hugh Laurie (Yes...House) you will love these DVDs. Have fun!
LIKE IT A LOT - BUT NOT QUITE FAMILY VIEWING January 19, 2008 The Black Adder series was on British TV and is REALLY very funny if you like it dry and even more so if you can catch all the British historical/Shakespearean references. Many American viewers may not be completely familiar with those.
There are occasional bits of vocabulary which have not crossed the pond and in most episodes there are sexual references/intimations/overt images which make the episodes a little racy for family viewing if your kids are under 16 or 17.
