He should give up acting December 14, 2008 No, actually, he shouldn't, because Hugh Laurie really is a very fine actor in both comedy - the 'Jeeves and Wooster' series was a delight - and more serious roles. But if he ever did, and decided to stick to writing, he could certainly make a career out of the novel.br /I came to the book thinking that I'd give it a try, presuming that it was just another case of a celebrity thinking he could try his hand in a completely unrelated field and expecting the book to sell just because it had his name on the cover, in the way that the names 'Jordan' and 'Beckham' seem to guarantee massive sales of even the most appalling rubbish.br /How wrong I was, because this book is excellent. It's light and funny, but at the same time deals with the serious side (and there isn't really a funny side) of multi-national arms dealing, government betrayal and cover-ups. Razor-sharp dialogue, execllent characterization, and a plot that keeps you guessing right up to the end.br /Thoroughly recommended.
Very Cleverly Written November 29, 2008 I really enjoyed reading this book and, whilst it was not as laugh out loud funny as I had expected it to be, there are some moments within it that had me rolling around in my chair. Laurie's writing is second only to his acting however he could have very easily rose to fame as an author. The book itself is ingeniously constructed to keep you truly on the edge of your seat with very little idea of the twists to come. I would highly recommend you giving this book a go - you wont regret it!
Brilliant March 21, 2008 For some reason i read this and imagined the main character to be alot like house!br /br /If you like house, you will LOVE this!
As already stated, it's an excellent read March 8, 2008 No point in waffling on here with a full review, as other people have already stated that this is a great read. It's full of comedy, but in Hugh's usual clever style and demeanor which never gets tired. The perspective you get due to his minute descriptions of scenes and surrounding adds so much to the book also, as cliched as it is, you feel like you're actually there.br /br /Nothing else to say other than a damn fine read, even more so if you're a bit of a Laurie fan.
Excellent read February 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was given this book for Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it. Laurie's dark humour and unexpected twists keep each chapter as intriguing as the first, right up to the final page.
