Amazon.co.uk Review
Initially one of NBC network's most successful series, IThe A-Team/I ran for 90 one-hour episodes (with a few feature-length specials thrown in) from 1983 to 1987. The premise of the series was certainly different. A group of US operatives is sent to rob the Bank of Hanoi during the Vietnam War in an attempt to destabilise the country's economy, but the bigwig who organises the raid is killed, leaving no indication that the mission was officially sanctioned. Returning home, Smith (George Peppard), BA (it stood for "Bad Attitude") Baracus (Mr T), Face (Dirk Benedict) and that "crazy foo" Murdoch (Dwight Schultz) suddenly find themselves accused of criminal activity, obliging them to set up as benevolent mercenaries. They tear around the country in what looks like a delivery van, generally do-gooding while keeping one step ahead of the inept military police. PSnappy, witty and fast paced, the series began as a spoof of the action-thriller genre. It wasn't until the later episodes that an element of seriousness crept in, which may have caused the decline in audience figures eventually resulting in the show's cancellation. On video and DVD though, it remains a feast for fans of classic cult TV.I--Roger Thomas/I

5 out of 5 stars The Best A-TEAM Video Available   August 19, 2002
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

This is a superb coupling: The feature-length pilot of THE A-TEAM plus their best regular episode "Pros and Cons." The best thing about these episodes is that the formula had not become set in stone yet: Later episodes would all have the same plot (the Team saves a small business from a villain who's trying to sabotage it), but here they're getting into more interesting situations and parodying a whole slew of movies -- "Pros and Cons" is a hilarious spoof of every prison-break movie ever made. Amy Allen (Melinda Culea), the female lead who was later fired for protesting the insignificance of her part, gets more screen time than she would later, B.A. (Mr. T) is more intelligent than he would later become, and Murdock (Dwight Schultz) is at his funniest. An extra advantage of the pilot is that it had a big budget, allowing them to actually film on location in Mexico and stage some really elaborate action sequences. Later A-Team episodes -- particularly after Amy was fired -- aren't really worth watching twice, but these early eps are funny and enjoyable on repeated viewings. If you buy only one A-Team video, make it this one ...

5 out of 5 stars Pure gold from the soldiers of fortune   March 26, 2001

What can I say that has not been said the best T.V. series ever. Ever since I was a young lad I've been waiting an d praying to see a re run of the A-team to no avail, so when I glanced at the video title recently I knew I must have it. Hannibal, Face, B.A. and my favourite Howling mad Murdoch still have the same impact on me now nearly 20 years on, maybe I haven't grown up but who needs to when you can still hire the A-Team.

5 out of 5 stars ARMOUR PLATING, BUS, CROP DUSTER AND POISON   March 16, 2001
Well what can i say about this video apart from to say BUY IT NOW. Even if you are not an avid A-Team fan the status amongst your friends will sky-rocket, because you will own THE pilot episode. It has big exposions, modifications on a bus, B.A. on a plane (he is drugged), bar brawls and of course Hannible does some dressing up. Explosive action without anyone getting hurt and classic one liners such as "I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER" make this one of the most enjoyable videos i have the pleasure to own - Paul "crazy fool" Rowley.

5 out of 5 stars Maximum use of one stunt jeep!   October 5, 2000
The best television show ever, finally released on video. The first episode is quite frankly superb. The guy who plays Face is actually really good too. Best moment: When Hannibal slides along the wire off the roof, and the theme tune's guitar solo kicks in for the first time.

5 out of 5 stars I pity the fool who don't buy this video!   October 2, 2000
I pity the fool who don't buy this video. Mr T want's you to watch this video. It's helluva good. This is the first re-release from universal playback. Hopefully the first of many. I pity the fool who don't release ALL the A-Team episodes!
