IMickey Blue Eyes/I was crafted as a vehicle for the stammering British charm of Hugh Grant (star of IFour Weddings and a Funeral/I and INine Months/I), so whether or not you like the movie will depend heavily on your affection for Grant. He plays an art auctioneer who falls in love with schoolteacher Jeanne Tripplehorn (IBasic Instinct/I, IVery Bad Things/I), who just happens to be the daughter of mobster James Caan (IThe Godfather/I, IMisery/I). To protect Grant, Tripplehorn tries to fend off his proposal of marriage, but some miscommunications lead to Grant being embraced by the "family." After the mob decides to launder money through Grant's auction house, an accidental killing results in Grant pretending to be Mickey Blue Eyes out of Kansas City (the sight and sound of Grant trying to say "fuggedaboudit" was undoubtedly what sold the movie in the first place). The plot isn't as well executed as it could be but the leads are all well cast and there are some excellent supporting performances, particularly Burt Young (Rocky) as a myopic mob boss and Scott Thompson (from the comedy troupe IThe Kids in the Hall/I) as a sprightly FBI agent. --IBret Fetzer, Amazon.com/I --This text refers to the VHS edition of this video

 JUST A WIDDLE SCWEW UP. GEDOUDDA HERE! December 7, 2007
This film is one of my faves.br /Hugh Grant plays the character of a British man living in New York, who wants to marry the daughter of a mafia mobster.br /There is are so many laughs in this film, my funniest moment is the scene in the steak house, where he tries to fit in with his fater in law to be and his mafia buddies, and it all goes horiibly wrong!br /You have to buy this film, you wont be able to just watch it once.

When the world of a sophisticated English-born art auctioneer in a Tony Manhattan auction house collides with the world of the New York mob, one expects a universe of comic opportunities, and the movie pays off in spades. James Caan is becoming one of those rare actors who is as adept at comedy as at heavier roles. The script is intelligently funny, and the movie is loaded with riotously incongruous situations. The scene where Caan attempts to teach the debonair Hugh Grant how to say "fuggedaboutit" in a hood's accent is alone worth the price of the movie. An overlooked delight.

Trademarked romantic comedy star Hugh Grant (Bridget Jones) stars alongside James Caan (The Godfather) and the two have an acceptable enough on screen chemistry to justify a stereotyped mobster with the loved up Englishman. br /br /Performances acceptable nothing great in this occasionally interesting romantic crime 1999 film. br /br /The plot pays attention to Grant's funny charming loved up character Michael whom as you guess when he makes a mistake then they simply keep piling up as he meets his girlfriend's mobster father. It's a bright idea and the occasional `bullying' gun violence scenes are worth note but the disappointment for me was that having problem after problem occur is simply conventional in films these days and inevitably you will get sick of the constant whining uninspiring dialogue which doesn't conform to reality at all. However I must say that towards the end there is a fantastic twist which made me stop breathing for a few seconds it was that shocking, but even that was let down by the end of the film. br /br /Despite constantly doing the same type of roles I am still a fan of Hugh Grant but unfortunately I believe this to be his worst performance. He's similar to every other character he's every played but this has a more annoying whiling and moaning style towards his personality. Jeanne Tripplehorn whom I have never seen before was also uninspiring as the troubled daughter of a mobster, where her situation should have been more serious and life a tad challenging her acting is unfortunate to not grasp this personality required. The chemistry on screen also needed more inspiring to make it acceptable.br /br /One of the most important scenes towards the end of the film was also extremely mixed up and confusing and couldn't grasp the intensity the film had been leading up to.br /br /Its cliched, its stereotyped its unrealistic and really uninteresting throughout. The characters are especially annoying even so more than the flat plot which never inspires any real interest. br /br /Its light-hearted entertainment with the occasional smiling joke and a few twists thrown in for good measure but in the wide scheme of the film, its poor throughout. br /br /not worth time and effort

This film is one of my favourite comedies ever. Apart from the fact that I like Hugh Grant ( and his acting), the film is actually very funny. There are many occasions in the film where you can laugh out loud. I especially love the part where Hugh is in the restaurant imitating the mobster accent. I laugh tears everytime. If you like light hearted fun, love Hugh and have a silly sense of humour, you will absolutely adore this film.... brilliant!

Seriously, if you havn't seen this movie yet, your missing out big time! All the gangsters are played by well known actors who have also played in the likes of Goodfellas and Sopranos and even The Godfather! The whole film is basically a gangster movie spoof/comedy, which is much funnier then Analyze This! Hugh Grant plays a English man called Michael who plans to marry his girlfriend, only to discover her whole family are involved in the Mafia, and soon enough are asking him for 'favours.' The ending scene at the wedding will have you in stiches as the plan to 'murder' Michael goes 'wrong'. Please please please see this movie, even if gangster flick type movies arn'yt your thing, this will be as it's for everyone!
