Amazon.co.uk Review
Jean-Claude Van Damme, aka "the Muscles from Brussels", had only a few movies to his credit when he played the hero in this lame post-apocalyptic action flick from 1989. It's really just another martial-arts movie, dressed down with near-future trash and dirty sets that have "low budget" written all over them. Van Damme plays the protective escort for a half-human, half-cyborg woman whose programming contains a possible cure for a plague that is threatening to wipe out the entire population of Earth. But the woman is kidnapped by Van Damme's evil nemesis (is there any other kind?) while they are en route to her Atlanta headquarters. That leads Van Damme right into a lion's den of sadomasochistic torture and torment. If you've made it this far (and if you have, why?), you are probably a founding member of the Jean-Claude Van Damme fan club. To everyone else: don't say you weren't warned--this is the kind of movie in which naming characters after electric guitars (Van Damme's character is named "Gibson Rickenbacker") qualifies as clever screen writing. --IJeff Shannon, Amazon.com/I

3 out of 5 stars Quick Reviews!   September 15, 2007

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***br /br /What was oddly supposed to be a sequel to Dolph Lungren's Masters of the Universe, Cyborg bares no relation to He-Man, Skeletor and Co. and is a strange mix of sci-fi, martial arts, and chase movie. The film is set in a desolate wasteland of the future where bandits travel the land rampaging and killing. Scientists are close to finding a cure for the disease which has almost wiped out every human. Nady Simmons holds the key and she must get to the scientists at Atlanta if there is to be any hope. However, a maniacal group of warriors is after her. She enlists the help of a strong drifter who happens to be a martial arts expert- Gibson, and who has motives of his own for helping her. For some reason all the main characters are named after guitars or parts of guitars- the main bad guy Fender Tremelo seems to be invincible and chases Nady and Gibson everywhere. It is up to him to protect her from the evil forces and get her to Atlanta safely.br /br /This is cheap looking, has poor acting, and some average fight scenes. However, it is still enjoyable, funny in parts, and has an interesting look to it. Maybe if it had had more money thrown at it, and a stronger cast it could have been more successful. The plot is simple but throws up a few 'surprises', and there are a few good fights and set pieces. Probably one for Van Damme fans only.br /

i think its one of the worst films i have ever seen i really mean it. i love action films and van damme has got to be one of my childhood favourite action heros but COM ONNNN its a terrible storieline and the ending doesnt even make sense van damme spends an hour and 45 min trying to help a robot and beating the hell out off people then he just walks off at the end. other than that the sets look awful they have tried to make it look as if its in the future so they just make everything look messy dont get it ............im not even going to say anymore its got to be the worst van damme i have ever seen sorry van damme. (dont buy it)

3 out of 5 stars ' i like the death! I like the misery! I like this world!!"   September 15, 2006

I enjoyed the reviewer who said that the costumes look like something you would see at an erasure gig, kudos brother as you are right but cyborg is a pretty good movie, almost arty in places and pretty dark and gloomy and doomy.br /The film is set in an apocalyptic future where a plague has wiped out most of civilisation and few remain and those that do are starving and outnumbered against a goup of villains all named after a make of guitar,a bit cheesy me thinks, but hold on wait a minute, van damme is here to save us and all could well be good again in the world.br /The film is enjoyable and uses sergio leones techniques where there are long moments with dialogue, and in places this works,in others its clinging on for dear life. This is saturday night fodder that you will enjoy, whether you put it alongside the best dvds in the world is entirely your call.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest movies ever made!   June 13, 2005

This movie reeks class. The cast is one of the finest casts I have ever seen in the same movie. How they managed to get dozens of world class actors all to play a part in this movie is beyond me. The costume/dressing room manager should have won an award for the amazing constumes the actors were wearing and the special effects were out of this world. The cyborg looks so life like its amazing. How this movie never one an Oscar - I just dont know. Probably the best movie ever made!

This film was absolutely awful, the acting was terrible, the scenary was dire and the costumes looked like something from an Erasure gig. The films that Jean Claude Van Damme made before this disaster were very good like Bloodsport and Kickboxer. The action scenes in the film are very minimum and are filmed with poor choreography. The end fight scene sees Jean Claude Van Damme take on this guy who was named after a guitar (Fender) and after JCVD getting the absolute f**k kicked out of him he suddenly he gets up and fights back and wins. I don't know if that's got something to do with being the good guy in the movie or being known as Jean Claude Van Damme. The bad guy of the movie (Jimi Hendrix's love child) was another accreditation to the film's downfall all he did was shout f**ker and speak in a voice that sounded like Darth Vader with a head cold. So what do you get when you have characters named after guitars, crap acting and dialogue, fake scenary, Erasure fans and a music score that could be featured in a German blue movie? A film called Cyborg.
