This film blew me away, it takes you through a roller-coaster of emotions, from the grief of a widow, through the hardships of being a single struggling, juggling parent through the closeness and bond of a very close friendship. The script is pure wit from start to finish, Angelica Huston is the oil that lubricates this glorious peep into the Irish dark humour. Ray winstone plays the loan shark and boy he plays it so well, I have scored this film a 5 because it truly is, there is something comforting about it and I am sure that after just 5 minutes of watching it, you will be absoloutely hooked, like I was...and still am!
Ah, sure 'tis grand August 3, 2004 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
I bought this video about 3 years ago and I cannot recall exactly how many times I have seen it. It has been loaned to at least 10 friends, who have raved about it, and been watched along with me by many others. It is fuuny and sad but not the least bit morbid, typically Irish!! Angelica suits the role really well, if not a little too glamourous she is quite believable in the role. Although the film stands up really well on its own merits, the books should also be read, they are great and very easy to read, you will laugh and cry at those too.pI will probably have to get another copy of the video soon as mine is showing signs of wear and I would hate to be without one.

This movie started on TV and I was going to change the channel but got hooked on it within 5 minutes. It is absolutely hilarious, there are moments that are sad.brI would highly recommend watching this movie, the Irish sense of humour is to die for!
brilliant film December 18, 2003 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This film is absolutely brilliant-it's funny and touching! Anelica Huston is absolutely great in it and aswell as Marion O'Dwyer who are the two main actresses. I'd say it was a film for most of the family but not for very young children as there is some swearing in it-but a thoroughly enjoyable film!
A great film you want to watch over and over again January 25, 2001 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
Angelica Houston's film is a romantic, light hearted look at how humour can get the human spirit through some really bad times. A really enjoyable film that I would like to watch over and over again, with superb acting and some very funny lines. If you want to feel up-lifted buy this film. I bought it and then leant it to my mum who loved it as well, perfect sunday afternoon viewing!
