If iBuffy the Vampire Slayer/i represents the lighter side of high school as a macabre experience, here's a movie that asks the burning question, "What happens when angst-ridden teenagers develop supernatural powers?" More to the point, how do four outcast teenaged witches handle their ability to cast wicked spells on the taunting classmates who've nicknamed them "The Bitches of Eastwick"? The answer, of course, is "don't get mad, get even." Some reviewers seem to have the wrong idea about this film. It is cleary not supposed to be scary, not in the traditional sense anyway and nor is it supposed to be another high school comedy. The nineties brought a resurgence of teen horror and comedy movies onto our screen, 90% of which are awful, but this one was different. The Craft refuses to be labeled as horror or comedy although it has strong elements of both, and it is more akin to Heathers than any other recent film. The humour is dark, biting, hitting at modern teen society, while the horror is psychological, dealing with transformation, our deepest personal fears, exposure of our secrets, and the the question of whether we can truly know or trust our friends and peers.br /br /Campbell is as gorgeous as always, her performance is strongg and convincing, showing a different side to her Party Of Five role. Balk is superb, taking her character by the teeth and plays with devilish relish. The rest of the cast is respectable, and both the script and effects are sharp, giving the movie a darker tone than any of its contemporaries. The cliches are there, with the outsider becoming the hero, but the result is never boring or predictable. Forget your knowledge of magic if you have any, and any preconceptions about teen movies, because this one is cool, dark, entertaining stuff.br /br /The DVD has a few good extras, a short documentary being worthwhile. This can usually be picked up for less than a fiver, so snap it up.

Sarah Bailey (Robin Tunney) is new to the school she brings with her some witchy ways. It is not that she is anti social just not comfortable in the main stream and those around her can tell. br /br /Witch group will befriend her? It is an odd group (Rachel True, Fairuza Balk, and Neve Campbell) that needs one more aware person to make a quorum necessary for some spells. br /br /Each of her new friends is outcast in one way or another. But now they are capable of calling upon spirit of Manol to fill their desires which start off pretty innocuous but soon gets out of hand. br /How will Sarah be able to handle this? br /Or can she? br /br /They better change their Wicca ways, not that they have any idea of what they are doing. This is Teen-age angst with a unique outlet. This type of story has been portrayed before, but they go a good job of not just turning this movie into a strictly blood and gore revenge movie. And I think it had an appropriate ending. br /br /Of course if you are just interested in the vicious one, then see Fairuza Balk again in "The Waterboy" (1998). There she bites heads off. br /br /For snake lovers, this movie features over 3000 snakes including pythons, boas, water snakes, garter snakes, rat snakes, and a 10-foot Amazon constrictor - even rare albino snakes.br /

this is an exellent film and u got some some people acting in it u have fairuza balk (who plays Nancy) who stared in the wizard of oz sequal return to oz, robin tunney (who played sarah) who started in Empire Records along side liv tyler, Neve Campbell (played Bonnie) who is famous for her role in teen show Party of five and muplitple successful film roles, and Rachel True who layed Rochelle who can be seen in the trouble channels "Half and Half".pif u like the witchy magic films with a bit of a dark side thats not too scary this is the film for u defo i love this film good for halloween when all else fails : )

Many of my friends had told me that this film was awful but when i watched it for myself I quite diagreed. I havn't seen a film quite like it.br It's basically about four teenage girls who are starting to practice withcraft. Sarah is a new addition to the group and is the innocent one who always does the right thing. Nancy is sexy, confident and power hungry. Although she goes a bit crazy I can't help but admire her huge smile and spectacular performance. Come to think of it all of the performances are good, even the annoying boys in their class that pick on them, they're just hilarious.br There has been a lot of research gone into this film and I think it shows a true representation of the types of spells and charms that actually exist. I am now very interested in witchcraft and wicca, and would like to find out more. br The film has got passion, romance, angst, drama, a cool magical cat fight, humour, really cool special effects and of course magic - there's also a little bit of a moral at the end. The soundtrack is awesome, especially "I Have the Touch" by Heather Nova which is just amazing. br I would seriously advise you to watch it, it's ace and I'm now obsessed with it. Check it out!
