Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Kids will enjoy the dinosaurs, gaudy prehistoric decor, and cartoon humour of IThe Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas/I; but adults will find fewer morsels of entertainment, although the sly performance of Alan Cumming (IEyes Wide Shut/I) as the Great Gazoo, an alien sent to Earth to observe human mating behaviour is a highlight. The movie begins before Fred (Mark Addy from IThe Full Monty/I) and Wilma (Kirsten Johnston from IThird Rock from the Sun/I) Flintstone ever met, back when Wilma was an unhappy rich girl seeking happiness in a less snobby environment. Running away from her smothering mother (Joan Collins!) and an oily suitor, Chip Rockefeller (Thomas Gibson from IDharma and Greg/I), she winds up at a drive-in restaurant where she meets Betty (Jane Krakowski from IAlly McBeal/I), a waitress who thinks Wilma is actually homeless and invites the runaway to live with her. Our blue-collar heroes, Fred and Barney Rubble (Stephen Baldwin from IThe Usual Suspects/I), ask the girls out on a double date, and before long Fred and Wilma bond over bowling. But it turns out that Chip is in debt to a ruthless loan shark and needs Wilma's money, so he invites the couples to his new casino in Rock Vegas, where he plots nefariously to ruin their blossoming love. The plot holds no surprises and the dialogue is clumsy, but there's a blithe dimwittedness to the whole affair that makes it curiously inoffensive. --IBret Fetzer, Amazon.com/I

5 out of 5 stars Flintstones at its best   January 28, 2007

Don't expect subtlety, or anything, but as Flintstones go, this is about as good as it gets. A clever script with innumerable visual jokes should ensure that you will be enjoying this treat as much as your children. br /br /The film is a prequel explaining how Fred and Barney met Wilma and Betty. Most of the credit here goes to these principals, who bring a unique charm to their roles, and although I didn't quite see Wilma like that, I was soon totally convinced. Alan Cummings, although truly awful as Mick Jagged - perhaps intentionally - is wonderfully smarmy as the Great Gazoo, the alien gratuitously, but entertainingly inserted into the drama. All in all, a cinematic and musical delight to be savoured.br /

5 out of 5 stars Great fun, harmless diversion   November 15, 2004

I saw this film on Spanish TV, dubbed of course and, no matter how well done, it's never the same as the original. So I am here to order an English version so my mother can enjoy it when she comes at Christmas. pSo what if the adorable pet Dino was the most intelligent character in the film (he knew what to do at the right times), this is a film for all ages, for when you want to escape from everyday reality. pYou've got problems to overcome, a baddy being rightly thwarted and values being questioned, before coming to the happy ending. I wouldn't exactly call this brainless. It's actually just a refreshingly inocent story.

5 out of 5 stars More Fun For The Family   April 20, 2004

This film is a good laugh. It's brainless, but the cast and crew obviouslyhad fun making it and that's the spirit with which it should beapproached: as a fun film, light-hearted and unpretentious. It is truethat if you're an adult you might not find much to appreciate here(although Alan Cummings' Mick Jagged is worth the price alone), but as onefor the kids, this is first rate.

5 out of 5 stars fabby fun   September 25, 2003
this film had the whole family in stitches. my 6 yr old daughter absolutely loved it as did we. It's a tender tale full of fun and nonesense. Don't hesitate - buy it - you'll watch it lots!!!

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly funny for a sequel   April 19, 2001
Having been underwhelmed by the first Flintstones movie I approached the sequel with foreboding... but hey Mark Addy made a great Fred, the set pieces were funny and other than an unconvincing Mick Jagger very like the cartoon. Particularly check out the hilarious themepark scene. Great entertainment for any family with pre-teen kids.
