Amazon.co.uk Review Eddie Murphy's remake of IThe Nutty Professor/I used the good professor's alter ego, Buddy Love, in much the same way that Jerry Lewis did in his brilliant original: a representation of the Id out of control that plays like an admission of the actor's off-screen sins. In the sequel, Murphy expands on his Klump family from the first film and makes them major characters. Consequently, his dark side has plenty more places to express itself, particularly through the oversexed grandmother, Sherman's aggressively impotent father, and his just plain surly uncle, as well as Buddy Love (all played by Murphy).p The movie opens with professor Sherman Klump barely holding onto his sanity as his internal Buddy Love makes him say inappropriate things. He decides to extract his mutant Buddy Love gene (a sort of genetic version of electroshock therapy), but afterward is unable to maintain his original personality and intelligence. Sherman is the most bland character of the bunch, and the audience gets stuck with his boring romance with fellow professor Janet Jackson, his struggle to be nice, and generic intrigue surrounding a Fountain of Youth formula he developed. When it's not trying too hard to be nice--heck, one character is anally raped by a giant hamster--the movie works. The moral of the story is that Sherman needs to reconnect with his inner Buddy Love. That goes for Murphy, too. --IAndy Spletzer, Amazon.com/I

ENTERTAINING ENOUGH December 9, 2007 Professor Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) has finally found his dream woman, her name is Denise Gaines (Janet Jackson). Which she's also a professor as well. But Sherman still feels his alter-ego Buddy Love (Played by Murphy) is waiting to get the worse of him. Sherman is working on a new formula that is trying to find the answer of the fountain of love. But the formula only works in a limited time only and Sherman is trying to find the missing ingredient to his DNA Cutting Edge work. If he does, he will finally get the money he needs for his research. But when Sherman can't trouble his alter-ego Buddy anymore, he decides to destroy the genes in his body to get rid of Buddy by injecting himself. Now the rest of Buddy Love is in a liquid goo. By destroying Buddy, it seems to work but Sherman is slowly losing his brain cells and losing his intelligence. Now Buddy finds himself back in human form with that got accidentally mixed with Dog DNA! Now Buddy tries to the steal the formula by stalking Sherman and his overbearing family (Nearly all played by Murphy as well).br /br /Directed by Peter Segal (Naked Gun 33 1/3:The Final Insult, Anger Management, The Longest Yard "2005") made an amusing enough sequel to the surprise box office hit of the 1996 remake. Murphy is just as brilliant playing six various characters in the movie and the make-up effects by six times Oscar-Winner:Rick Baker (Click, Coming to America, Ed Wood) are just as wonderful to look at. But Segal's wild energy and the often funny if messy screenplay by Barry W. Blaustein (Beyond the Mat, The Ringer), David Sheffield (Police Academy 2:The First Assignment, Boomering, The Honeymooners), Paul Weitz (About a Boy, American Pie, Down to Earth) and Chris Weitz (Antz, The Golden Compass) doesn't always pay off.br /br /The direction is a mess at times and the script, especially the wild humour is not always on target. But there's some good genuine laughs here and a few gross-out humour as well. While this sequel is a bit different from the 1996 picture, it doesn't quite match the quality of the first movie. Although Jackson is actually more charming as his love interest than Jada Pinkett Smith did in the 1996 version. Die-Hard fans of Murphy's work and Baker's wonderful make-up effects will certainly find some amusing here. It is certainly not the worst or best of Murphy's work but it's entertaining and far from boring. Worth a look. From a story by Steve Oedekerk (Ace Ventura 2:When Nature Calls, Nothing to Lose, Patch Adams), Blaustein and Sheffield. Unrated Version also available.
Superior Sequel May 2, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wonderful film featuring the hilarious-loving comedian Eddie Murphy playing the whole Klump family, and nice-looking, great-sounding Janet Jackson as Sherman Klump's new girlfriend. After working on a DNA extraction plan, the theoretical advancement of science that would remove unwanted genes in a person's body, in Sherman's body to get his arch-nemesis, skinny vision of himself, Buddy Love out of his body once and for all. He tries a procedure and slowly finds out it reverses his memory, and he has only a couple days to find Buddy and get him back in his system. It's a race against the clock, and who will win, Sherman or Buddy? Hey, couch potato, get up, drive to the video store and rent it, watch it and then jog back.
'i wanna, i wanna.... stick my beef in your taco!' April 14, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this movie is really hilarious, especially if you feel like having your comedy laid on with a trowel and extra non p.cpeverything is covered here from fart gags, old saggy tiddies, to giant hamster sodomy!pif murphy isn't good enough (the variety of characters he plays is outstanding), the granny will blow you(!) away.. some of her one liners are just awesome. stand out scenes being the haircutters/back-pain reminisce, and the stripper man scene. 'soul. traiinnn!!'pjanet jackson is also superb and seems genuinely gobsmacked at what is going on around her.pthe dvd features are far from outstanding, and the sound is questionable and seems to have been mastered really badly. but if laughs are your priority then buy this movie to cheer yourself up loads.
The nutty professor strikes again and is better than before! December 8, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw the Nutty proffesor ages ago and foud it to be realy funny but not the best movie in movie making history, it was sort of passable.brThis movie, however is hilarious, you find out more about the evil granny and the whole family and it is so cool. The movie has some great acting in it from Eddie Murphy and, more surprisingly, Janet Jackson.brIf you liked the Nutty professor 1 then get this movie but obviously if you didnt like the first one you will not like this one! This movie is funny and silly and not to be taken seriously! If you want a movie to make you laugh after a bad day then this is definatly the movie for you! A great movie from one of the funnies guys around definatly well worth a look 5 stars!
