Amazon.co.uk Review In an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle, John Cleese wrote IFierce Creatures/I with the purpose of reuniting the comedic cast of IA Fish Called Wanda/I. Media mogul (Kevin Kline) owns a London zoo. He demands that the park raise more profit, so the new zoo director (Cleese) orders that only dangerous animals be displayed in order to maximize ticket sales. In a dual role, Kline also plays the mogul's son, who plans to run the zoo with the help of displaced employees (including Michael Palin) and zoo programmer Willa Weston (Jamie Lee Curtis). The situation lends itself to comedic confusion and split-second timing, and for a few good laughs the film is a pretty safe bet. It's not as hilarious as IA Fish Called Wanda/I (that's a pretty tall order), but Cleese knows comedy, and his efforts are worth a look. -I-Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com/I

Same Cast as A Fish Called Wanda but Totally Different Film December 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Fierce Creatures" was marketed as a somewhat adventurous endeavour in teaming up much of the old team from the highly acclaimed "A Fish called Wanda" to do another film that was completely different and had nothing the same, except much of the cast.br /br /Does this have the same sparkle? The short answer is no, but it is still good viewing. It tells the story of a highly greedy and successful business magnate, Rod McCain (Kevin Kline) who has just taken over a zoo in England. However, business regulations require that the zoo return 20% of revenue or it will be shut down. Put in charge is Rollo Lee (John Cleese), who is then somewhat overthrown by new recruit Willa Weston (Jamie Lee Curtis) and McCain's 'idiot' son Vince (also Kline). Essentially the film deals with the three of the new directors and their different schemes for making money and raising the revenue to 20%, but with plenty of sexual tension and comedies of error along the way.
A gem August 21, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
As everyone always points out, this film isn't a bit like 'A Fish Called Wanda'. But, then, it was never supposed to be. Wanda was a major comedy event. 'Fierce Creatures' is a smaller, slighter thing on a much more defined scale. But, in itself, it's a gem.pJohn Cleese is in his element as a zoo director working just beyond his own ability. The film gives him plenty of opportunities to completely insult the most important person present and then act as if nothing had happened, and the usual complement of chances to get tied up in knots being English.pCleese sparks well off Kevin Kline and Jamie Lee Curtis, but the magic is in his relationships with the minor characters, including Python stablemate Michael Palin, the evergreen Ronnie Corbett and the wonderful Derek Griffiths. What's unusual -- almost unique -- in this film is that all these minor characters are actually willing to stand up to Cleese and tell him he's wrong. But they're also willing to side with him when the tables turn. So, for once, instead of Cleese-the-bully getting his come-uppance, we have something strange and marvellous -- Cleese transformed into someone loveable and admirable. The transformation in Cleese also works its way through to Jamie Lee Curtis, played in an unusually sympathetic role. pIf there's anything in this film which doesn't quite work, it's Kevin Kline as McCain father and son. He's fine as humour, but he lacks the moronic ruthlessness of his Wanda character, and the eventual resolution of the plot is a little too trite.pThis is a clever film which keeps the fun going all the way through. Its finest moment is the room-bugging scene which begins with Palin and Cleese reprising Monty Python pseudo-intellectual banter, and ends up with a classic Laurel-and-Hardy style farce, with people jumping in and out of the cupboards they are hiding in, always just out of sight of Kevin Kline playing both father and son, while a loose tarantula scares the cupboard dwellers, and various stray animals complete the proceedings.pI could watch this film over and over again. And, you know what? I probably shall.
MORE PLEASE!!!! February 25, 2005 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This film was always going to be under the shadow of a fish called wanda, and many have written it off as a shabby sequel.pBUTpIf you take the time to actually watch it you will see it is full of funny moments from pthe vampire cleese to palins non stop talking keeper to cleeses 5 animal bedroom scenepdeserves another sequel
A study in economics November 9, 2004 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
As one knows all institutions should pull their own weight in today's economic environment. John Cleese as Rollo Lee is tasked with coming up with a money making scheme to save the Zoo. The theme is "Fierce Creatures" See the unique solution in action. brAll the characters in this movie have some unique quirkiness to them. I am not going into detail as the surprises are best seen. However Rollo gets a kinky reputation by being seen with half-clad women (plural) and various compromising situations with animals. brBottom line will the Zoo be saved? What happened to less fierce creatures and people? Will Willa find love or a reasonable substitute?brLook for Cynthia Cleese (daughter of John Cleese and Connie Booth) as Pip Small Mammals.
FIERCE CREATURES January 12, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you like animals, comedy and having a great night in with your mates, then i strongly recommend this movie. It is by far the funniest movie John Cleese has ever starred in, and that is saying something. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Palin (who previously worked with John Cleese in "Monty Python") and academy award winner Kevin Kline follow their smash hit "A Fish Called Wanda" with this hilarious farce which has been said to be 'a very funny picture.' A quaint English zoo is the setting for a riotous revolt after the zoo director attempts to rid the park of it's cute, cuddly animals (which the keepers are rather attatched to) and display only "fierce creatures." It is an entertaining story of an animal loving group of people who do the strangest and, in some ways funnily dangerous things to keep their little creatures in the zoo.
