Amazon.co.uk Review
ISpaced/I is a sitcom like no other. The premise is simple enough: Daisy (Jessica Stevenson) and Tim (Simon Pegg) are out of luck and love, so pretend to be a couple in order to rent a flat together. Downstairs neighbour and eccentric painter Brian suspects someone's fibbing, and almost blows their cover with their lecherous lush of a landlady, Marsha. Fortunately he soon falls for Daisy's health-freak friend Twist, while Daisy herself goes ga-ga for pet dog Colin. Tim remains happily platonic with lifemate Mike; a sweet-at-heart guns 'n' ammo obsessive. The series is chock-full of pop culture references. In fact, each episode is themed after at least one movie, with nods to IThe Shining/I and IClose Encounters of the Third Kind/I proving especially hilarious. Hardly five minutes goes by without a IStar Wars/I reference, and every second of screen time from Bill Bailey as owner of the comic shop where Tim works is comedic gold. The look of the series is its other outstanding element, with slam-zooms, dizzying montages, and inspired lighting effects (often paying homage to the IEvil Dead/I movies). It's an affectionate fantasy on the life of the twenty-something that's uncomfortably close to the truth.p BOn the DVD/B: The disc also includes trailers, out-takes, deleted scenes with commentary, cast, crew, and character biographies and a full audio commentary by the director and cast. --IPaul Tonks/I

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding   August 5, 2005

This has to be simply the best comedy series in recent years. Ideal for the 30 something with hidden references to the films and TV of our youth. Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson are fantastic as the "friends" who share a flat.pThe extras on the DVD are great, the outtakes are hilarious, particularly the one where Simon electrocutes himself with a toaster and the commentaries are just an extension of the show.pWonderful stuff - it was a black day when they decided not to make a third series.

yep, great stuff.brThe scene where they all go to a club with the crazed 'tyres' has to be one of the funniest, most perfectly realised sequences I have seen on the box. I can well understand the speed with which Edgar Wright has been able to break into directing movies (Shaun of the Dead).brVery stylish, hip, funny, and with a heart like a whale.brBuy it if you have ever lived in North London or are even slightly a bit of a TV or film nerd. Don't buy it if you like gravy, chips, and Stars in their Eyes!

5 out of 5 stars Best sitcom there is! Please make more episodes!   May 25, 2004

This show is EXACTLY what I was looking for when searching for a new series to enjoy. I am in the US and I do not really find our "sitcoms" funny at all. Spaced is a very clever show and the characters are mostly true-to-life. The movie references are very western (funny that I love a British show that pays tribute to American movies) and elevate this series to classic status in my book. Better than Ab Fab, Friends, The Young Ones Cheers put together! Buy both seasons and wish for more. Contains some funny outtakes and deleted scenes. "Skip to the end!"

5 out of 5 stars Spaced, I came and got some   April 16, 2004

The first series of Spaced has become what might be called a cult series (at least as far as I am aware).brWe are introduced to the characters of Tim and Daisy, both creative, both exciting, both imaginative, both out of work, both (effectively) homeless.brIn the first episode we see them strike up a friendship, agree to pretend to be a professional couple and get a flat in a house owned by the deliciously wine-loving Marsha.brOver the next few episodes we meet Daisy's friend Twist who works in fashion (well, she works in clothes), Tim's friend Mike who is a soldier (well, at least he can wear a uniform in the Rough Ramblers...) and Brian, who, well, Brian's an artist.brAs the series progresses though moments of the sublime surreal and the deepest tragedy (Colin the dog is abducted by a crazed freelance vivisectionist) Spaced continues to delight. Constant pop-culture references to be enjoyed, ever-present imaginative humour to delight, a style uniquely its own and far more besides make Spaced a must have for any true fan of comedy.brIf I must skip to the end, pretty much perfect.
