Amazon.co.uk Review
In IMe, Myself Irene/I, Jim Carrey plays Charlie Baileygates, a cop for the finest police force in the world (Rhode Island's). In denial about his wife's affair, he's a nice guy who goes around trying to do the right thing but is taken advantage of every step of the way. Instead of confronting people, he takes the abuse, balls it up and hides it in the pit of his stomach. His psyche can only take so much, though and soon his Ialter-ego/I Hank pops out to do every libidinous thing Charlie would never do. It's a great premise for a Jim Carrey film. Unfortunately, it's not a great Jim Carrey film. Famous for the lowbrow, shock comedies like IDumb and Dumber/I, IKingpin/I and IThere's Something About Mary/I, here the Farrelly brothers get lost in a series of lazy gags and an even lazier plot about some evil golf development and the woman, Irene (Renee Zellweger), who needs to be protected because she knows something about it. Some of the jokes hit (there's a bathroom scene that's 10 times funnier than the hair-gel gag in IThere's Something About Mary/I), but many more miss. There are some great concepts (his three sons are hip-hop geniuses) that don't go anywhere (they swear a lot). It's like the movie itself has a split personality--funny ideas trapped in a less-than-funny film. --IAndy Spletzer, Amazon.com/I

5 out of 5 stars Puts the boot into political correctness   August 15, 2008
It's filthy, and it has a lot of laughs at the expense of political correctness.br /br /As a Brit, I'm just sorry that a film like that probably couldn't be made here.br /br /OK, there were a few annoying things about the film, but really barely worth mentioning.br /br /Some of the gags, sight and spoken, were just brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun when with freinds   July 15, 2008
I think this is Jim Carrys best film ive seen it so many times and will never get bored of it

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Film   February 26, 2008
Jim Carrey in one of his best films. Good scenery and good story line. Very funny movie from start to the end. Taurus Award and Teen Choice Award was won by this film. It should have been an Oscar for Jim Carrey. If you like Jim Carrey you will enjoy this film.

4 out of 5 stars Multi-faceted and funny!,   October 16, 2007

I think the Brothers would do well to cast Jim Carrey in more of their movies. I found Dumb and Dumberto be absolutely hilarious and, once again, he has made "Me, Myself and Irene" a truly enjoyable piece of comedy. Without his fabulous physical performance, this film would be reduced to a string of sight gags and toilet humor which we have all seen before in dozens of other movies. br /br /Narrated, in cheesy-fairy-tale style, by Rex Allen Jr., Me, Myself Irene tells the story of Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey), an exceedingly nice Rhode Island State Trooper. He marries the love of his life only to have her run off with an African-American midget and leave their three racially mixed kids for Charlie to raise. Some sixteen years later, the kids have grown up to be geniuses and Charlie grows up with a problem. You see, as various misfortunes have befallen him over the years, he had adopted a grin-and-bear-it attitude that resulted in a lot of bottled-up anger. All that emotion is now releasing itself in the form of advanced delusionary schizophrenia with narcissistic rage, a.k.a. multiple personality disorder. br /br /While Charlie is gentle and wary of any confrontation, his other personality Hank is exactly the opposite. He spouts insults all over the place and picks fights with everyone he encounters. Charlie's doctor gives him medication that is supposed to suppress Hank, but Charlie leaves it in his hotel room while escorting a pretty girl named Irene (Renee Zellweger) to upstate New York. He also falls in love with Irene and vows to protect her from crooks and corrupt cops who are after her (among them Chris Cooper, fresh off his American Beauty triumph). But not surprisingly, Hank keeps getting in the way. br /br /I know that this movie was not exactly embraced by critics which blows my mind. Seeing that everyone completely adored There's Something About Mary (Widescreen Edition) - basically all the same jokes without Jim Carrey to pull them off. This movie is not for everyone, but any astute movie watcher and any true Jim Carrey fan will instantly see the uncompromising energy which he poured into his 2 characters. He is truly a wonder to behold and will go down in history as one of the greatest physical comedic actors of all time. Say what you will about the movie, but it really is a shame that the Academy consistently overlooks Carrey's gifted performances. He has proven that he is a talented actor with the range to perform both serious and comedic roles. Gifted dramatic actors are a dime a dozen in Hollywood - I defy you to find a comedian who can do the things that Carrey does on screen and who can make audiences laugh with just a look. br /

5 out of 5 stars No Holes Barred (literally)   April 25, 2005

In an era when "political correctness" or more accurately "patronising correctness" is so rife, how refreshing to watch a movie that's happy to get stuck in and kick around a few taboos. The visual gags are classic Carey and the supporting cast do a pretty good job to. Nice to see a fresh faced Zellweger taking part in something a bit more risque than here well known nice girl goofy persona would normally allow. Probably the least important component of this movie is the actual plot. This works well enough but what's more important are the gags which range from bad taste to down right surreal. If you want a serious plot watch a serious film. If you want your head opened up a bit with some great humour watch this. Carey at his best. Soundtracks pretty good too..
