Amazon.co.uk Review For his first video ILive at the Top of the Tower/I, Bolton comedian, actor and Channel 4 star Peter Kay returns to his roots--both as a stand up and by performing live in Blackpool, his childhood haunt. Bolstered by the acclaim heaped on his two television series (IThat Peter Kay Thing/I and IPhoenix Nights/I), Kay is very much at the top of his game. Odd then that his live routine suffers from something of a false start, relying on characters from and references to his TV show and an awkward batch of jokes. Once settled though, Kay happily emerges as one of the funniest men in the country. His humour is fairly traditional in its sources but succeeds by its very universality. Much is made both of his family life and growing up in the 1980s, the reasons why he makes such a great guest on the rash of television shows dissecting the decade. His style will be very familiar to fans of IPhoenix Nights/I (his words on the Northern club circuit: "tomorrow's acts at yesterday's prices, today"--are straight from his Brian Potter character) and his acting and writing have obviously been hugely influenced by his life as a stand up. He emerges from the video as a great visual comic, a brilliant mimic and an inspired observationalist--his piece on the perils of Teletext is one of the highlights. Those who have taken to the likes of Mark Park, Cheryl Avenue, Jerry Sinclair and Kay's countless other creations should not hesitate when it comes to ILive at the Top of the Tower/I, nor should anyone else with a sense of humour. I--Phil Udell/I

Great Northern Humour December 26, 2007 This is Peter Kays first live DVD and it's brilliant. I grew up not far from where Peter Kay comes from and I can relate to everything he says, I'll swear he's seen me using Teletext and, yes, I do say t'internet and t'Egypt. My father was just the same as his when it came to food like Garlic ...... Bread! And he used to drag me out of bed at the crack of dawn on holiday. The extras are great too, the interview is quite funny and there's the John Smith's ads as well. If you know anyone northern, you'll love this, even my Australian friends can relate to it. This is much better than the MEN Arena DVD and really is great northern humour.
Very Funny (oh im sweating cobbs, i like it warm but i dont like it this warm) January 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Everything he says is true. You do do the things that he jokes about in this performance and mum wants a bungalow tour. I think its spitting is hiliarious, and 'its that fine rain that soaks you through that'. He talks much about going on holiday in blackpool and abroad. The special features are good the interview is interesting and the deleted bits are just as funny as the main show you see on the dvd. The way he acts them out is so funny you will be on the floor laughing. Also he comes out with little funny lines, he says that his mum used to hoover at three oclock in the morning before going on holiday how you can make a joke out of that is genious. If you like 2p arcade machines there are jokes about that too. Alton towers queue's, slippers, dinnerladies, las vagas trips, people waiting for bags at airports anything that is anything to do about holidays. Im a fan of dave allen and victoria wood too so if youre a fan of them you will love this. Oh and also the why do mums buy crap pop jokes are the best. If you love comedy just get it.br /br /P.s. learn how to make rose perfume by watching this dvd, believe me the avon lady will worry.
Early Kay November 5, 2005 3 out of 19 found this review helpful
He has got better as his experience has grown. This is not vintage stuff - it is early Kay, and shows. pHe is always good value, but as he has progressed, inevitably his audinece expects more than that which appears here.pI struggled to keep watching
Certainly more Pepsi than Roller Cola! July 14, 2005 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Peter Kay blew me away with this superb stand up performance! The format is this, Peter Kay builds up a series of stories from his past in a sidesplittingly funny manner. The way it works is remarkably simple..Peter allows you to relive funny (or often embarrasing) episodes of your life and alot of the comedy comes from reflection on your own experience, however the way he tells his stories, and the extreme but believable events that he describes had me at times having to pause the DVD to gather my breath. Anybody will find this funny..most will be crippled with laughter. I strongly reccomend this to you!
THE BEST !!!!!!! January 31, 2005 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Peter Kays jokes are mind-tickling and they bring back memories which almost make me pee myself !!!!! Everytime I hear the words "garlic bread " all i can think about is this amazing stand-up comedian !!! He truly is an asset to comedy !!!! I LOVE YOU PETER KAY !!!!
