IThe Smashing Pumpkins: 1991-2000 Greatest Hits Video Collection/I visually charts the progress of the band from grunge rockers to AOR stars. Shot on Super 8, the grainy early videos ("Siva" and "Rhinoceros") depict the progressive psychedelia of their early sound. Despite the continuation of an alternative music style on ISiamese Dream/I (the group's first album with Virgin), the videos from this era become more mainstream in a blatant attempt to get MTV airplay. Matching the commercial and accessible style of the album, the IMellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness/I videos are big-budget numbers. Drawing on their long-standing fascination with 70s youth culture, the "1979" video provides another romanticised depiction of that period, while the awarding-winning "Tonight, Tonight" is a clever remake of Melies ITrip to the Moon/I. The epic style continues on later videos, with "Perfect" being a sequel to "1979". Also included is the harrowing short film by Jonas Akerlund, "Try" (a 15-minute extended version of the "Try, Try, Try" video), which follows the last days of a homeless, pregnant young woman. Also included are live performances from their final concert. An Immaculate collection of videos that illustrates just why the Smashing Pumpkins were one of the most important and influential bands of modern times.br /br /This DVD contains The Band's 17 Singles and 3 bonus live performances, as well as commentary by the band and outtakes from each video, that come together to give a thorough and rounded visual perspective of the band's career. The videos themselves all differ in visual style, themes, and content, and are the perfect accompaniment to the songs.br /br /What is interesting about these videos is that for the most part, they were obviously not intended for commercial success, instead aiming at integrating the medium of film, and producing intelligent, meaningful work that would sit next to the songs comfortably. The Live songs also work to show off the bands talents as live artists.br /br /The DVD is a worthwhile purchase because it shows how the band evolved throughout the 90s, both musically, and as multimedia icons. It is an interesting, engaging, and entertaining viewing of a band that strived to be progressive in all areas that one can be a band: Musically, visually, as a live act, as storytellers, and as icons for the alt rock generation.

i bought this dvd a few weeks ago and i couldn't press stop at all for at least a week! it has all the best music videos including disarm, bullet with butterfly wings and rat in a cage. this dvd is pure excellence!

This DVD is what most modern music video colection dvd's attempt to be. It contains a perfect collection of the bands video's that displays the bands progressive attitude towards video making.pThere is alot of documentary from the band on the DVD about each video. Aswell as a few live and rare video's to boot.pBut while this is well and good similar DVD by other contain virually the same layout and perhaps even more extra features at a far lower price. Stone temple pilots and the Red hot Chili Peppers have both recently released best of DVD + CD combonations and the DVD's in those sets contain pretty all the equivalent material to this one at a far lower price.pOfcourse for most pumpkin fans this is an excellent DVD, and price probably win't matter much, but still ninteen pounds is a little pricey.

Genius! Eyecandy. This is a trip. It is quite a lot of money for one dvd, but it is a very good dvd (with the worst menu I've EVER seen)!pPumpkins videos are works of art. This dvd is about the Pumpkins videos. How can it not be good? It is exactly what it says: a collection containing the videos, including outtakes and interviews about the making of the videos. This one has a place in my "Best of" section. It transcends Pumpkins-fandom. (That means you will probably like it even if you are not a Pumpkin fan). Expensive, but worth it.
