NEAT FILM, SHOULD BE BETTER PICTURE QUALITY THOUGH! July 4, 2008 Good Sword Sorcery action film, set in Dark Age/Medieval times (as opposed to Conan/Lord Of The Rings pre-history) with an overt fantasy edge.br /It's successful in overcoming it's budgetary limitations, with plenty of action, decent sets/costumes etc and inventive visual FX. There's quite a high gore content here with grisly plague victims, heads cleaved in half, and hearts magically torn out! A very good villain too with the demonic, Sorcerer of the title (Great Make Up FX). The fight choreography is reasonable too with an impressive final sword fight ( incl. a three bladed mystical sword that can actually propel the blades, in missile fashion!) br /The film has more of an Indiana Jones feel, than the intensity of Conan The Barbarian or Excalibur. It actually reminds me of Paul Verhoeven's Flesh And Blood, but with the Fantasy elements in full effect.br /Oh, and there's a fair share of T A for the lads!br /The real dissapointment though is the picture quality - It looks a bit grainy, as if the film was copied direct from VHS onto DVD, instead of properly remastered. :(br /It is still worth buying despite this, as still (just) better than VHS and it's a good film!
Just read the title November 13, 2007 THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER came out the year after the brilliant CONAN THE BARBARIAN, and is defintly one of the best sword and sorcery flicks to have followed in Conan's wake. It tells the story of the young Prince Talon, who's parents are murdered by the evil king Cromwell (an excellent Richard Lynch) who is supported by the wizard Xusia. The film follows Talon into manhood and his quest for vengence. The film has plenty of action(its more blood thirsty than Conan) and features some great make ups and special effects. Lee Horsley is no Marc Singer or Schwarzenegger, but that is one of the film's only let downs. The character's names was my main problem, why is the bad guy's name Cromwell? I think it sounds too recent. Like Conan I think this is a film for looking at rather than listening. If you want pure entertainment this one is for you!
IT IS ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES EVER MADE!!! March 1, 2006 1 out of 14 found this review helpful
I think the title of my review says what I want. I just hate myself for paying ANY money to watch this movie.
SWORD SORCERY AT ITS ALMOST BEST November 28, 2003 13 out of 25 found this review helpful
VERY GOOD STORY LINE, TALON SON OF A KING WATCHES HIS FATHER DIE BY THE HANDS OF HIS ENEMY WHO TAKES OVER HIS THRONE, YEARS LATER HE TRAVELS BACK NOT KNOWN TO ANY ONE AND DECIDES TO HELP A FAIR(OK DARK HAIRED) MAIDEN ONLY TO COME UP AGAINST HIS FATHERS KILLER.brTHE ACTING AND EFFECTS ARE PRETTY GOOD FOR THE DATE, JUST WISHED IT HAD BEEN MADE NOW ADAYS. THE STORY LINE WOULD BE PERFECT WITH TODAYS SPECIAL EFFECTS THROWN IN
