4 out of 5 stars Watership down volumes 1 and 2   November 2, 2003

Well I thought that this video was very humorous in places such as Keeha the gull, with his funny Italian (played by Rick Mayall) and also the mouse, Hannah (played by Jane Horrocks). Both their voices suited the characters very well. br Although these aren?t really bad points in my opinion but some things have changed in the series to the film such as when they begin their adventure they have already left their warren, and also they have new characters all the way through, as well as sex change, as Blackberry is now a female (although that could be because they didn?t want to appear sexist). br Despite the changes I think it is an excellent video, and recommend buying.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful! I just can't stop watching it (^_^)   August 24, 2002

The 'Watership Down' Cartoon series are so beautiful and so is the soundtrack. It's even better than 'The Animals of Farthing Wood' cartoons...way better, definitely!pThe cartoon series of 'Watership Down' isn't too different compared to the original story. It still keeps the same idea only it's put into a cuter storyline and detail. I am very attracted to the drawing, animation and paint they've used. It makes it so beautifully done. The cartoon series are about a group of rabbits who leave their old warren because one of the rabbits named Fiver has a vision that they'll all be killed if they stay in their old warren. (Fiver is gifted with seeing the future) So he and his friends and his big brother, Hazel, leave to find a special new home called 'Watership Down' on a very high hill.pI can't tell you the whole story but I can tell you that they have many adventures, some made up for entertainment and more excitement, while the rest of it remains the same as the original Richard Adams book. The segull is still in the cartoons but there's a new character, a mouse called Hannah. She may not be an original character from the story but I think she's a really cool addition. In two of the episodes of Watership Down there is a rabbit from the original story called Blackavar and he's voiced by Stephan Gately. He also sings the song 'Bright Eyes.' John Hurt returns from the original movie to voice General Woundward instead of Hazel who he originally voiced (can you believe it? I can't)!brYou can watch the rabbit's lives on Watership Down and share in their journeys and adventures. You can watch what life is like for the rabbits in Efrafa and how Hazel and his friends try to help Primrose and Blackavar escape. They do escape but sadly that cartoon was not put onto either of the videos in this box-set. I really hope they bring out the rest of the cartoons on video (DVD would be better) very very soon.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good, I was impressed!   July 11, 2002

To all people who liked the Watership down books, I'm a U.S. WD fan, and we never get the series here in the U.S., but when I saw that a TV series was made, I decided to buy it, just to satisfy my curiousity, and to my surprise, it was better than I had hoped.brThe cartoon has taken a few liberties(eg. Blackberry is a doe, Only Hawkbit, Dandelion, Hazel, Blackberry, Pipkin, Fiver, and Bigwig are in the adventures with Kehaar and a new character, Hannah(a mouse)), but the series was interesting for several reasons:br1.) After the first two episodes, you begin to feel for the characters and actually get into the plot; each series leaves you feeling for more.br2.) The plot isn't so cut and dry; there are a few surprises that will get your interest.br3.) A lot of humor in the video too(especially Hawkbit and Bigwig).br4.) For some reason, it feels to me as if this series is continuing from where it left off in the 1978 movie. Ever since I saw Hazel's death in the end of the 1978 production, I was left sad and wanting to see more of the adventures of the WD rabbits. With the series, it does give you some sort of that kind of closure.brHowever, the reason I gave it 4 stars was:br1.) The video can get a bit cutesy and lame with the characters(like Stawberry for instance).br2.) If you're truly a huge fan of WD, you'll be disappointed that there are only 6 episodes on the tape when there are 26 episodes made, so if you wanted to watch the entirety, you wouldn't be able to because the tape only has 6 episodes.pYet, in a nutshell, I would say it's advisable to buy the video if you really enjoyed Watership Down (the book and the 1978 cartoon movie) and the series aren't as bad as people complained about(I've seen worse, BELIEVE ME). So, if you're thinking of trying to see what the series are like, this video is a good place to start.

5 out of 5 stars Has to be better than 'Farthing Wood', or just as good!   June 30, 2002

Not a bad rendition of the story. It is really good for a childrens series. I hope it does well on video, and in other countries, for it deserves to do so. And its a big series too!pPro'sbrAdequate actingpLovely animation in placespWonderful musicpSome actors from the film, return to the series!br{Namely John Hurt and Richard Briers!}pcon'sbrBad acting in placespBad animation in places { the frame rate is awful, and some, especially when climbing the hill, rabbits don't touch the ground. Don't believe me? Take a close look at the Soundtrack picture!pSome of the happennigs aren't realistic. Liek the for some reason INCREDIBLY SLOW weasel trying to catch Pipkin { How is he so slow?}pBut this still does not stop me from giving it top marks. BUY IT!
