Hilarious December 1, 2008 Really funny film, possibly the best from all of the Austin Powers films. Didnt give it a 5 star because I found Beyonce pretty irritating all the way through but there were so many hilarious scenes it made little difference. Well worth a purchase!
good fluffy fun June 8, 2008 better the second flick but not as gold as the first movie this a passable comedy that ticks all the boxes.but the film is worth watching for the opening sequence alone which is hysteriacal
STILL FUN August 8, 2007 With the third installment in the Austin Powers series Mike Myers finally seems to have lost some steam. His performance isn't as fresh as in either of the previous movies and he tries to cover up for the loss of freshness with even more ludicrous gags than in either of the two previous films combined and it works, to an extent.br /br /It is a safe assumption that Goldmember is the most far out, weird film of the series. Lines like: "I open-mouth kissed a horse once" firmly establishes that. Myers always did have a crazy sense of humor which he established in the first film and refined in the second film but in the third film he completely goes overboard. The first two films were clearly Bond spoofs and while the third film maintains many Bond spoofs it also references films like Silence of the Lambs but the film does the same mistake as the latest Bond film (Die Another Day). It starts to spoof itself. Many of the jokes are almost complete replicas of the previous Austin Powers film. Fat Bastard returns only to produce the same kind of toilet humor he did in the second film and there is a "we're casting shadows" scene once again and while this is pretty funny the first time you see it it pretty quickly loses its appeal. Myers still continues in his Peter Sellers inspired way to add more and more characters that he plays himself and the new character, Goldmember, is by far, the weirdest yet. He is a Dutch criminal mastermind who eats his own skin flakes and has a preposterous accent. The new love interest for Austin is the weakest yet. Beyonce Knowles is hot and she really can sing but quite frankly isn't much of an actress. The director, Jay Roach, could definitely have done better with the casting there. All of the supporting cast returns again and do exactly what they did in the previous films. No news there except for Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) who is still absolutely hilarious. Also it was nice to see that Michael Caine can be genuinely funny and shallow as well as deep and personal. There are a lot of cameos in the film which produces some of the best laughs. Cameos like: Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Kevin Spacey and Britney Spears.br /br /The effects are pretty impressive for a comedy but they don't really do much. They are just there to look nice and were probably expendable when you think about it. Still its nice to know that Hollywood are willing to spend a considerable amount on money on comedies as well as big action movies and as the effects don't lessen the value of the movie it really doesn't make much of a difference.br /br /The film is still pretty funny and I enjoyed it even though it felt a bit tired. Some if the re-used ideas worked well and I did laugh uncontrollably in one scene but overall the film is inferior to its predecessors but definitely worth a look.br /
Buy it Baby! March 24, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This film was hilarious!br /I like Mike Myers and found Wayne's World hilarious, however, the Austin Power's films kind of passed me by really.br /I have seen the other 2 films now but they really weren't as funny as 'Goldmember'.br /My husband son and I laughed all the way through even though it's really very crude and juvenile (just like them) but I think that's why it works.br /You gotta 'buy it baby'!
GENIUS June 25, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I shouldn't find it as funny as I do, but I can't help but laugh so hard my sides ache every time I watch this film. The characters are so hilarious and there are so many of them that you find yourself laughing virtually non stop. Myers is so funny to watch and so original and ahead of the game in all he does. So many catchphrases have come from this movie it just shows how funny and in tune with viewers it is. Buy it, watch it and laugh so hard you'll cry!
