Amazon.co.uk Review IParty At The Palace/I starts with Queen Guitarist Brian May--who looks more than ever like a haircut with a person growing from beneath it--playing "God Save The Queen" on the roof of Buckingham Palace; seemingly missing the point of his obvious inspiration, Jimi Hendrix's apocalyptic subversion of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Woodstock. Unbelievably, and theoretically impossibly, it goes downhill from there. p It can only be assumed that the bill for the Queen's Jubilee was assembled by an ardent republican. The concert is a motley assortment of has-beens and time-wasters, a curious number of whom felt it proper to celebrate the monarch's 50 years by singing old Motown songs badly. The concert also features an extended plug for Queen's (that's the Band) risible musical IWe Will Rock You/I and Lenny Henry shouting. Bewilderingly IParty At The Palace/I is not only redeemed, but made worth owning, by the four-song set by Brian Wilson with his version of "God Only Knows"--accompanied by Andrea Corr?-offering a heartbreakingly earnest performance. The concert ends with a pantomime version of "All You Need Is Love". IParty At The Palace/I is the night rock roll gave up. p BOn the DVD:/B IParty at the Palace/I is presented in 16:9 format. Songs can be selected by title or by artist. There are subtitles in French, German and Spanish. Proceeds from the sale of the DVD, "after the deduction of costs and expenses in relation to its production and distribution", will be donated to the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Trust. --IAndrew Muller/I

OK - but why is so much missing? April 19, 2007 If the producers of this DVD were so pressed for time, surely we could have lost some of the more dreadful and totally out of their depth "acts" such as S Club Seven and preserved once in a life time moments such as McCartney singing "Her Majesty" to the Queen (who definitely was not amused by it!).br /br /Other than that an OK record of the night.br /br /Have to say I'm amazed by the comments praising Will Young's slaughtering of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Sorry, but my idea of soul is not a grating, nasal whine with the occasional flat note. Almost as embarrasing as him twittering and twitching beside James Brown at Scottish Live 8 while the seventy-odd year old Brown wiped the floor with him. br /br /Appalling.

here in the space of 180 minutes you get from the likes of your paul mcartney to your s club - which ever may be your cup of tea it's here.brit's a great piece of memorabilia for the jubilee too.brwill young's performance out shone many of them with his fabulous rendition of 'i heard it through the grapvine' and i think it's definatley buying worthy!

Some quality performances from artists such as Clapton and Collins on the drums are balanced by some awful ones, including Will Young, truly murdering 'I heard it through the grapevine'.
oh what a night! August 21, 2002 14 out of 24 found this review helpful
Well, what a night indeed, I wasn't able to be there in person but this dvd, more than made up for it. It is fantastic!brFrom Brian May's outstanding opener to the show, right down to Eric Claptons "Layla" this DVD truely is a must have for any music lover.brOk so I did skip the bits with Atomic kitten and Emma Bunton, but the rest of this marvellous DVD is amazing.brIt is difficult to pin point which were my favorite parts, but i'm afraid when it came down to it, it had to be Will Young!pHis version of Marvin Gaye's "I heard it through the grape vine" was amazing, and when he sang with Queen, it gave me chills. Well done Will! (Ok so you've probably guessed that i'm a huge Will Young fan, but the mans a star!)brBut seriously, this DVD is fantastic.brIn my opinion the only parts that let it down are, Elton Johns so-called live performance, very dissapointing, and Ruby Wax's annoying, supposedly comical, irratating drone!brBUT HEY, don't let that put you off, it really is a fantastic DVD, and the finale' is spectacular!brAll you need to do, is turn the volume up, and witness what being British is all about, so add it to your collection, it really is a night to remember on the DVD you'll never forget!br "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN"
Review and Tracklist July 23, 2002 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Event: Pop/Rock concert for the Golden Jubilee of the QueenbrPlace: Buckingham Palace Gardens, LondonbrDate: 3rd June 2002brDuration: 2 hours and 54 minutesbrFormat: PAL / 16:9 / 720 x 576pReally a MUST for any pop/rock fan, because it shows all the great monuments of the rock era playing together the same evening! Phil Collins played the drums for almost every song, except the ones with Roger Taylor on the drum. Brian May was great that evening, and Eric Clapton too. You'll see a unique rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody all live in its enterely! Yes, even the operetical part was performed live by the cast of 'We Will Rock You' musical.brPhil Collins was really great, even when he sang You Can't Hurry Love. Then you'll see The Corrs covering The Beatles' The Long And Winding Road, Tom Jones covering Joe Cocker's You Can Leave Your Hat On, Joe Cocker covering The Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends, Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton performing together While My Guitar Gently Weeps (as it was in the original record, where the solo was played by Eric Clapton as a guest, instead of George Harrison).pJust some few defects:br- Will Young's rendition of We Will Rock You is not so goodbr- Elton John's performance was not live but pre-recorded in a room, and he played just one song whereas Brian Wilson played four...br- The concert is not in its entirety. All the speeches were cut out, even Prince Charles's, and two Paul McCartney's songs were cut out, too. They were Black Bird and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.brIf you are interested in having those tracks you should look on e-bay if anyone is selling a videotape of the concert as it was broadcast on BBC that same evening.br- And eventually, being a British event, the concert lacks of some artists...pYet, the DVD remains a MUST, even just only for Brian May's performance!pHere is the complete track list of the DVD:p1 God Save The Queen (Brian May)br2 Cup Of Life (Ricky Martin)br3 Livin La Vida Loca (Ricky Martin)br4 Don't Stop Movin' (S Club 7)br5 Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves (Annie Lennox)br6 You Can't Hurry Love (Phil Collins)br7 Dancing In The Street (Atomic Kitten)br8 I Heard I Through The Grapevine (Will Young)br9 Get Ready (Blue)br10 Baby Love (Emma Bunton)br11 Stop In The Name Of Love (Mis-Teeq)br12 Sex Bomb (Tom Jones)br13 The Long And Winding Road (The Corrs)br14 Dancing In The Moonlight (Toploader)br15 Goldfinger (Dame Shirley Bassey)br16 Everything I Do (Bryan Adams)br17 You Can Leave Your Hat On (Tom Jones, Blue)br18 Radio Ga Ga (Roger Taylor)br19 We Will Rock You (Brian May)br20 We Are The Champions (Queen, Will Young)br21 Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen, 'We Will Rock You' Cast)br22 If I Ruled The World (Tony Bennett)br23 Why (Annie Lennox)br24 Living Doll (Cliff Richard)br25 Move It (Cliff Richard, Brian May, S Club 7)br26 Paranoid (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi)br27 I Want Love (Elton John)br28 California Girls (Brian Wilson)br29 The Warmth Of The Sun (Brian Wilson, Eric Clapton)br30 God Only Knows (Brian Wilson, The Corrs)br31 Good Vibrations (Brian Wilson, Cliff Richard)br32 Layla (Eric Clapton)br33 Gimme Some Lovin' (Steve Winwood)br34 With A Little Help From My Friends (Joe Cocker, Brian May, Steve Winwood)br35 Lola (Ray Davies)br36 Handbags Gladrags (Rod Stewart)br37 While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton)br38 All You Need Is Love (Paul McCartney, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart)br39 Hey Jude (Paul McCartney and everyone)
