Amazon.co.uk Review
IQueen's Greatest Video Hits 1/I takes full advantage of the legendary status of "Bohemian Rhapsody", still ranked as one of the best-loved tunes of all time, and its equally legendary video. Although no one can wholly explain what Freddie's lament was about, this collection includes four mini-documentaries that attempt to unlock the mystery with limited success. The original videos to favourites such as "Someone to Love", "We Will Rock You" and "Killer Queen" are also included, as well as a new racier version of the video for "Bicycle Race". Brian May and Roger Taylor provide an optional audio commentary throughout, interspersed with edited interview snippets from the late Freddie Mercury. p Unlike so many other audio commentaries where producers and artists too readily gush praise about each other, May's and Taylor's observations are both fascinating and frank. Although much of what they discuss about the making of the promos is replicated in the accompanying glossy DVD booklet, it's illuminating to hear them chat about their dislike of Dennis De Vallance's video for "Fat Bottomed Girls" (principally because the final cut focused almost exclusively on Mercury). Their stories about the making of the videos also add some much-needed panache to these basic low-budget promos. For instance, their account of the making of "Spread Your Wings", on a freezing winter day in Roger Taylor's garden, brings an added dimension to an otherwise flat video. p BOn the DVD:/B IQueen's Greatest Video Hits 1/I reflects the limitations of pre-digital recording; much of the visual material looks tired and dated even though the original footage is now presented in 16:9 format. Closer attention has been paid to the remastering of the audio soundtrack, which includes DTS 5.1 versions of the favourites (the multi-channel audio experience of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is stunning). The opening menu sequence is also impressive, with state-of-the-art animation that incorporates the designs of early Queen record sleeves. --IJohn Galilee/I

4 out of 5 stars Some of the best songs but not the best videos   October 7, 2008
This DVD includes twenty two of Queens's music videos and although there are some great songs included, most of the videos themselves are basically the band playing to the camera. The majority of the music on this DVD is from Queen's first Greatest Hits album with the addition of other songs from various other albums. As well as the music videos are also three live performances for the songs `Now I'm Here', `Love of my Life' and .We Will Rock You'. In addition to this the DVD also includes a few short extras about the making of `Bohemian Rhapsody' all of which were interesting to watch and quite informative. Overall this is a good DVD for Queen fans as although many of the bands best music videos are on the second DVD set this one still includes many great songs even if the videos themselves are less than impressive.

1 out of 5 stars Can't watch in the USA   March 28, 2007

Was so excited to order both videos. These were something I had been looking forwarded to for a long time. But to my disappointment, they can not be played in the USA unless you have a special video machine! I opened both packages as soon as they arrived just to look at them, tried to play them and they failed. I have spent the money, I have opened them but cannot watch them or return them. Now I have to wait until I can afford to purchase the proper video machine - I wish I had been warned.br /

5 out of 5 stars Queen   August 24, 2005

This is a must for any Queen-fan. And I suppose anyone else too, as these are classic songs, each and every one of them. brThe sound and picture is superb. Also, the BoRhap "documentary" is very insightful. Personally I could have watched Brian sitting in front of that desk and talking about the recording for hours. pWhat really dissapointed me aboput this DVD, was the commentary from Brian and Roger. On most of the songs the commentary was sparse and not very enlightning. Brian going "mmm", "yeah", "oh", as if he is reminded of something, or seeing something he likes, isn't very helpful. I almost shouted at the screen; "Speak up, man. Share your memories with us". Afterall that must be the meaning of having a commentary track on the disc in the first place.pBut, otherwise, nothing to complain about. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars The perfect way to remember the perfect band   June 3, 2004

This two-disc set includes 17 videos from the band's extensive catalogue, including many of their most popular hits - Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Killer Queen, Don't Stop Me Now, et al. These masterpieces, along with the great sound quality, would justify the price tag alone, but those nice DVD folk have given this set even more bang for its buck by adding an entire disc of bonus features, including many rarely-seen videos, anda complete breakdown of Bohemian Rhapsody, from its origins, through to its video, and its worldwide recognition today.pDefinitely a worthy purchase for any Queen fan.
