Amazon.co.uk Review
IVictoria Wood Live at the Albert Hall/I provides proof, if any were needed, that after two decades at the top of her profession, Wood is one of a small handful of British comedians of either sex capable of filling the country's largest venues. For the consistently high quality of her penetrating observations of the mundane she has no equal. Recorded in 2001, this performance has all the hallmarks of her microscopic examinations of life's perplexing minutiae and trivia. From her recent hysterectomy to Paul Daniels, from the NHS help line to wheelie bin covers, from Americans in Disneyworld to the ageism of catalogue mailing lists, nothing escapes Wood's attention. Not even in-vogue authors: she refuses to read "Captain Corelli's friggin' Mandolin" as it sits reproachfully at her bedside. p Wood even provides her own interval act: a devastatingly accurate parody of a vulgar, second-rate cabaret singer shot to stardom on the wings of a cruise ship docu-soap. Jane McDonald's sense of humour will never face a harder test. More poignant are Wood's observations on parenthood and marriage, with all the physical ailments of middle age ("We've only got one fully operating leg between us"). She has since separated from her husband, the magician Geoffrey Durham. Fans will await the impact of that on her stand-up material with some interest. --IPiers Ford/I

5 out of 5 stars Sound synchronization...   July 7, 2008

I have this DVD, and I think Victoria Wood is brilliant, as usual. A very funny woman. But... There is a very big delay as far as the lip movement is concerned - more than a second. Highly confusing. Has anybody else experienced the same?

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Hilarious!   July 16, 2007

I totally urge you to buy this highly amusing DVD. My 14 yrold son and I watched it together and we were both in hysterics. Her puns were witty, her jokes tasteful and we were both very disappointed to reach the end of this cracking DVD. She is, without doubt, superb.

Saw this live and had to buy it. The inclusion of the Jane MacDonald parody kills me every time, as well as 'Hysterectomies and Hernias'.br /br /Buy it - stop reading this.

4 out of 5 stars Victoria Wood delivers the goods.   February 21, 2005

I had only heard Victoria Woods one woman shows on audio tape, so was interested to see what a recording of the live show would be like. I wasn't disappointed. This was a very funny show and the way she skillfully ended act one was a masterstroke (I won't spoil it for you - but it involves the lights suddenly going out). I watched this with my 14 year old daughter who found it funny as well, and I do'nt think there is a harder audience to please.
