5 out of 5 stars I would say it is ok.   May 10, 2008
Back to the secret garden is not really a continnue from the first movie, but i think it is a very nice story. It is absolutely innocent and very good to watch with small children,i bet they like all the flowers and animals in the secret garden and the hole story anyway. So it does not matter if this movie might not be as good as the first one,we have enjoyd it all.

4 out of 5 stars Supurb Vacation Home Secret Garden   February 3, 2006

Frank and Christine Goodlake have given the Kissimmee area a wonderful vacation home with a secret garden which opens onto acres of lush green gardens.

4 out of 5 stars It's not that bad!!   March 9, 2005

The problem with sequels is that everyone expects it to pick up exactly where the first one ended...However this is not the case. Yes the first one was better, but as far as sequels go, I think this has had a good attempt. The original character of Mary Lennox is in it(all grown up now though of course, and played by Cherie Lunghi), and Joan plowright does very well in her leading role. The garden itself, although somewhat smaller than the original is very picturesque. There is some beautiful scenery in the film and I think it could be a very nice film to watch on a sunday afternoon with a cup of tea and your feet up!!.Quite a good film that stands alone, and you don't feel you've missed any of the story if you haven't seen the first one.

1 out of 5 stars awful sequel!   July 16, 2004

The Secret Garden was a delight to watch, you really could lose yourself in the film and for us oldies it took you back to your distant childhood! It is a truly wonderful film.pBut anybody expecting more of the same in 'Return to the Secret Garden' will be very disappointed because it is just awful! There is no magic or wonderment in this sequel whatsoever so best just to avoid it totally! A shame really because it could have been a great opportunity to continue the Secret Garden adventure but I guess it just wansn't meant to be!

1 out of 5 stars Disasterous sequel   October 2, 2003

The book the Secret Garden is one of my all time favourites and the video of the book is superb so I bought "Back to the Secret Garden" hoping for more of the same. I was extremely disappointed.brMisselthwaite Manor is now an orphanage run by Mary (who married her cousin Colin). Colin is made Ambassador to the USA and so Mary ships off with him and a sick orphan who needs treatment only available in the US, leaving Martha in charge at Misselthwaite. For some bizarre reason, it seems that Mary must send an orphan from the US back to Misselthwaite in exchange for the one she took to the US. This orphan, Lizzie, hears about the Secret Garden and wants to find out more. Martha however doesn't think the kids should be allowed in (except on Sundays after church for ettiquette lessons) and keeps it locked the rest of the time. Lizzie steals the key to get in the garden... and it all goes downhill from there.brThe writer of this story, Joe Wiesenfeld, seems to have missed the whole point of the original novel by Frances Hodgson Burnettbrand captures none of it's magic.brProbably watchable if you haven't seen the original (that's the only reason I gave it 1 star) but if you're a fan then don't waste your time (and money).
