Digital love September 7, 2008 "I wanna know what love is br /I want you to show me br /I wanna feel what love is br /I know you can show me" br /(Foreigner) br /br /This is one of my favorite movies from the eighties, and one that I really wanted to see again, except that it's been very hard to find. I finally got a copy and watched it again recently, and surprisingly, it's still fresh and extremely watchable. br /br /Short Attention Span Summary (SASS): br /br /1. Boy (Lenny von Dohlen) meets computer br /2. Boy meets girl (Virginia Madsen) br /3. Computer meets girl br /4. Girl and computer share a Minuet #4 in G br /5. Quirky love triangle develops br /br /Miles Harding (von Dohlen) buys a "state of the art" computer system to help him design a building block that will withstand earthquakes. He gets a little carried away with the new technology, connecting the computer to every electrical appliance in the house, and when he attempts a massive upload, he gets way too much information, and a lot more than he bargained for. br /br /His new neighbor Madeline (Madsen, looking young and gorgeous) is a cellist, and in the best musical duet of all time, she shares a special moment through the heating duct. br /br /Soon there's a little rivalry going on between man and machine, making for a most unusual and enjoyable romantic comedy for the ages. Look for ever-so-cute Maxwell Caulfield in a small part, and enjoy the soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder, Jeff Lynne, Culture Club and Philip Oakley, among others. br /br /One small note - although most of the movie is fine for kids from 10 and up, there's one scene where the computer repeats an expletive a few times that you'll need to watch out for. br /br /I'd like to join the universal call to release this classic on DVD for a new generation to enjoy. br /br /br /br /Amanda Richards
A PC that has feelings May 1, 2008 This film was made about 20years ago,and is still very good.In a way,it is strange to see this film about the impact of a PC on the lives of 2 people who were meant for each other. He is a classic nerd/geek with no time for girls, and she is his attractive neighbour who is dating someone else .All this takes place in San Francisco, when it was a lot more innocent .The strangeness is looking back at a time when a PC was something very unique and not very well understood .Here it is,and after a small electronic mishap, the PC develops a mind of its own .It is fascinated by the attractive neighbour and develops a serious crush on her long before the geek really notices her. What follows is a very amusing man versus machine competition for the affections of the young woman .The Bay Area is an added plus and the music by Moroder excellent.
