Amazon.co.uk Review
A lot has changed since the original 70s-era gang of Scooby-Doo fans gave way to today's followers of the hipster mystery cartoon series. IScooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders/I contains all the familiar elements; even the groovy green Mystery Machine makes a comeback, but it isn't as reliable as it used to be. At the outset of IAlien Invaders/I, it breaks down, leaving the crime-solving crew stranded in a creepy desert town overrun by aliens. From there, the plot unwinds faster than Scooby can down a box of his namesake snacks. A band of swollen-headed purple and green space guys--Zoinks--send the terrified teens scrambling for cover, but it's not long before the quick-witted gang figures out that there's a team of bad guys behind the bug-eyed masks. That's not to say, though, that real-life aliens aren't also roaming the streets, as Shag and Scoob (who hook up in an unprecedented IScooby-Doo/I romance with a peace sign-wearing babe and her equally hip dog) discover in the course of clearing out of the phoney aliens' hair-raising path. To longtime viewers, the love angle seems unsettling; it steals from the tightness of the mystery team. Still, with so much creepy fun to get caught up in, it's a minor complaint. Scott Innes, the modern-day voice of both Shaggy and Scooby, nails both parts, and Jennifer Love Hewitt fans also will want to tune in--she sings the Scooby theme song. --ITammy La Gorce, Amazon.com/I

4 out of 5 stars Best of the "All New" Scooby Doo movies   May 1, 2004
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I was a Scooby Doo fan as a kid in the 70's, rushing home from school to see the Gang fight weird and wonderful monsters ,unmask them and expose them as the charlatans and crooks they really were. But my interest in the series flagged as the monsters always turned out to be fake, never real, and with the introduction of Scrappy Doo (why ?), the cartoons became increasingly plotless and banal with lots of pointless monster chasing and mindless slapstick replacing the humour and depth of the earlier episodes.brHowever in the late 90's ,the "All New Scooby Doo" series brought the cartoon right up to date with the introduction of rock soundtracks, hi-tech gadgets and a hairstyle and clothes makeover for the re-formed original gang , with Scrappy Doo thankfully having been "hounded" out.pThe "Witch's Ghost" is probably the best of the "All New" movies. Like "Zombie Island" , at last we see ghosts and monsters which are real and beyond rational explanation. "Witch's Ghost" is perfect Scooby Doo- it has a multi-layered storyline , with several clever twists, detailed characters, a lot of humour and seriously scary monsters. We meet the engaging Hex Girls, the sinister Ben Ravenscroft and witness perhaps the most outrageous display of bad table manners ever seen in a children's cartoon as Shaggy and Scooby pig out in a New England restaurant.pThis is an exciting "Scooby Doo" cartoon, which will entertain adults also, but it might scare some younger children, especially when the monsters and ghosts turn out to be real and if you don't want to explain what Wicca is to your curious offspring then this is probably not the movie for you.
