Amazon.co.uk Review
Arnold Schwarzenegger as a pregnant man? The Terminator with cramps and morning sickness? That was all the teasing audiences needed to flock to this 1994 farce, which reunited Arnold with his director and co-star from ITwins/I, Ivan Reitman and Danny De Vito. Reitman had also directed the Austrian muscleman in IKindergarten Cop/I, and they brought the same breezy quality of those earlier films to this enjoyable fluff, in which Arnold plays a scientist who uses his own body to test a revolutionary new fertility drug. His colleague De Vito talks him into the experiment, which succeeds beyond their wildest expectations when Arnold begins a full-term pregnancy. Emma Thompson offers a wealth of comedic support as the biologist who moves into Schwarzenegger's lab while he's coping with his "maternal" condition, and Pamela Reed (who was also in IKindergarten Cop/I) adds to the fun as De Vito's pregnant ex-wife. What's surprising about this mainstream hit is not that it makes the most of its absurd premise, but that it's also sweetly heart-warming in its treatment of role reversal and the joys and pains of pregnancy. It's a good-natured vehicle for a different side of Schwarzenegger's star appeal, and the fact that it works at all is a tribute to Reitman and his cleverly talented cast. --IJeff Shannon, Amazon.com/I

5 out of 5 stars The funny and sweetest film!   November 21, 2002

I first saw this film when I was on holiday and I thought it was brilliant. The excellent compatability of Devito and Schwarzenegger make this film even better. Why not a pregnant man? It's definately a funny idea. brYes, watch Arnie go through moods, cravings and pains as he carries through an experiment he should never have continued. brSchwarzenegger is the most talented man. brThoroughly enjoyable film if you like heart-warming and funny stories.

4 out of 5 stars Smarter than the average pair   February 15, 2001
Dan and Arn make a giant leap towards being etched in the slab of Hollywood immortality, precious few stars of the silver screen can traverse from genre to genre as effortlessly as this unlikely pairing. The very sight of the Arnoplex turns me into a twenty stone freakaziod. A wonderful Emma Thompson ( from TV's 'Thompson') makes the divine trinity complete. If your a fan of unlikely comedy, this is as pleasurable an experience as your likely to have.

2 out of 5 stars Now thats a big daddy   February 9, 2001
The Arnie/DeVito partnership that made a massive hit of Twins is dredged up once again in this comedy where chemistry is all-important. Arnie plays a man who, through the miracles of medicine and some persuasion from the devious DeVito, agrees to become pregnant. And herein lies the joke. The one and only, single, lonely joke. Yet it's quite funny. Watching the former action hero blast his way through gags instead of heads is fresh and amusing. Co-stars DeVito and Thompson - as the dazed scientist - thankfully add the more subtle laughs to the pot. With such an old film it's little wonder that there are few purposeful extras. The featurette is interesting as director Reitman makes a rare interview appearance, while the insights of the production notes only serve to show how the film misses the wider comments it seeks to make on sexual equality. Junior isn't a demanding DVD, but it's sure to please the puritans.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Film   May 25, 2000

Arnie has played many great roles, but not one matches this. He's hilarious and unbelievably well-suited to the part. I consider it a sin that this film didn't get better ratings.

4 out of 5 stars Not an avergae Arnie Flick   March 14, 2000

Arnie pregnant and Danny DeVito delivering it. Yes it seems a very bad idea for a film but it is actually a very funny film. Arnie plays a man who is the Guinea Pig for an experiment who is only meant to take drugs to see if he could carry a pregnancy but on the sly he carries on taking them. Some hilarious moments as he starts to crave and become very emotional. Makes me realize that men do get the better end of the bargain.
