Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sheathing itself in bad taste, this film flaunts its tackiness, its machismo, and its very stupidity, which of course makes for a lot of dopey fun. Harley Davidson (Mickey Rourke) returns to his roots, the LA of 1996 (the film was set in the near future, as it was made in 1991). Burbank has become an airport, a new drug called Crystal Dream is all the rage and Harley's favourite bar is being torn down. To save it, he and the Marlboro Man (Don Johnson, at his most engaging) concoct an armed robbery that goes awry. Instead of cash, they end up with a shipment of Crystal Dream. Hunted by a drug dealer's goons, the two bark, fight, drink and squint at each other as they try to get themselves out of their mess. This is IButch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid/I for the monster-truck crowd, with plenty of breasts, choppers, broken pool cues and empty bottles. It's impossible to blame this film for being so emphatically trashy; its creators would consider that a compliment, anyway. --IKeith Simanton, Amazon.com/I

4 out of 5 stars It's better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool   March 13, 2008

Set in the then-future of 1996, drifter Harley Davidson (played by Mickey Rourke) is in a motel in Texas when he hears about a dangerous new street drug named "Crystal Dream" on the radio. The significance of this street drug does not arise again until later in the film. Harley then decides to visit his erstwhile companion, a cowboy nicknamed The Marlboro Man (played by Don Johnson) and they plan a bank robbery to help save their friend's bar from being torn down and replaced with a skyscraper. However, after they rob a bank's armoured car, they discover the cargo they stole is in fact the designer drug "Crystal Dream", not money. The bank's president (who is involved in the shipment of the drugs) demands the return of the drugs. And a series of increasingly deadly encounters ensue as heavily armed hitmen (led by Daniel Baldwin) hunt for Harley and Marlboro. The characters in the film are named after famous American brands such as: Harley Davidson, Marlboro (cigarette), Virginia Slim (cigarette) - as well as Jack Daniel's Old Grand-Dad, both whiskies. The character Jimmy was named after Jimi Hendrix, who he looks like.br /br /This is a typical American action/road movie which features it's fair-share of sleazy bars, hoodlums, action heroes, corrupt officials and hired hitmen. Having said that this movie does deliver it's dosage of action, set against the backdrop of some stunning locations such as, a rooftop shoot-out on top of a Las Vegas Hotel - as well as a final duel (reminiscent of "High Noon") which takes place in an airplane graveyard. The opening scene at the beginning of the movie being my favourite scene: expansive desert shots of Mickey Rourke riding a motorcycle. DVD content is kept to a minimum featuring only an original theatrical trailer, sound options and chapter selection (although the film is offered in the widescreen format). This comes as no surprise since the film was considered a financial failure, receiving many negative reviews at the time of it's original release back in 1991. All-in-all, a lively action film featuring guns, bikes and explosions.br /

5 out of 5 stars A film for all occasions   June 25, 2003

I am no film critic but i enjoy my films and i have waited for 12 years for this to come out on dvd.brDon't get me wrong this is not a masterpiece of cinematography but on many a night when there has been nothing on tele to watch i have cracked open a tinny and put this film on.brThis will probably not appeal to a majority of people but if you give it a go you may be pleasantly surprised,it has quite a good cast (don johnson aside!!)including the gorgeous tia carrera and the opening scenes are played to bon jovi's Wanted dead or alive!!brThe storyline is easy going and you dont need to be a rocket scientist to follow it so it can even be watched with girlfriends without being interrupted every 5 minutes with annoying plot questions(so they can get the beers in and not miss much of the plot-quality!!)!!There is plenty of action and it is a good buddy buddy, friends forever, fight in what you believe in film.brAll in all get the fridge full of beers, order in pizza and invite your mates round for a night in watching this quality feel good movie.

5 out of 5 stars One Liner Heaven - A purely guys flick   September 30, 2001

Do you like guns? How about half naked women? Rediculous action scenes? Bulletproof badguys? Basiclly, are you a guy? If so, your gonna love this movie. I hate Mickey Rourke, but he's damn good in this. And Don Johnson is funny... Buy it, rent it - just watch it, but not with any women or they'll spoil it.

5 out of 5 stars Its the American Way!   October 16, 2000

Wanted, Dead or Alive - the long Harley growls through the country and into LA, a leather clad compassionate biker under the name Harley Davidson is on his way to meet the Marlbro Man likewise a compassionate cowboy. Modernisation has taken root in Burbank and these two take a stand against it, in favour of the old days! In a tale full of testosterone and ego similar to that of Butch Cassady and the Sundance Kid the two hero's embark on a law breaking, thrills and spills cascade into life, freedom and the American Way! Its script is not the focus here, its the attitude, the story also is full of cheese but the pool room brawl, bike chase, compassionate feel and oh that Harley is just classic. ...
