Amazon.co.uk Review IThere's Something About Mary/I is one of the funniest movies in years, recalling the days of the Zucker-Abraham-Zucker movies, in which (often tasteless) gags were piled on at a fierce rate. The difference is that co-writers and co-directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have also crafted a credible story-line and even tossed in some genuine emotional content. The Farrelly brothers' first two movies, IDumb and Dumber/I and IKingpin/I, had some moments of uproarious raunch, but were uneven. With IMary/I, they've created a consistently hilarious romantic comedy, made all the funnier by the fact that you know that they know that some of their gags go way over the line. Cameron Diaz stars as Mary, every guy's ideal. Ben Stiller plays a high-school suitor still hung up on Mary years later; the obstacles standing between him and her include a number of psychotic suitors, a miserable little pooch, and, oh yeah, a murder charge. The Farrellys' admittedly simplistic camera work, which adapts easily to a TV screen, and the fact that you'll likely laugh yourself so silly over certain scenes you'll want to replay them to see what you were missing while you were busy convulsing, make this a perfect video movie. Great Laughs October 9, 2008 This is a very funny film with a number of excellent set pieces, such as the scenes with the dog and the police interrogation scene. It is not a film for the prudish, but the gross moments are very few, though well known.br /br /It also features the beautiful Cameron Diaz and that is another majopr attraction of this film.br /br /But there is also sympathy for the main character, her would be lover, a decent chap, and his difficulties before reaching his goal.br /br /Matt Dillon as the sleazy PI is also on fine form.
Mary August 29, 2008 This is a brillantly funny film with great visual comdey moments Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller and Matt Dillon star in this brillant comdey masterpiece.br /br /If you are bored of action and violence and super powers this is for you it just funny atfer the first few moments.br /br /Every kicks off a number of years after a disaterous first date. There are many funny moments which will keep you watching to see how there will top that last.
what a classic April 28, 2008 Theres something about mary is a great comedy, truly great, gross out at times, very funny in others and more than a comedy at others, this is a love story and is handled very well among all the great jokes whether they be worded or visual,ie,sight gags.br /The film deals with an awkward ben stiller who plays ted who as an adult reflects back on his life and works out that the only time he was in love was when he was a teen and met mary who is played by cameron diaz.He wishes to find here but doesnt know where to look really so he hires a private detective, pat, played with brilliance by matt dillion, who is a dodgy character to say the least.br /The film also boasts the talents, and yes he does well,in lee evans as a two sided character that also draws laughs, but in truth they all do,clever, witty as heck and twice as good, this remains one of the 90s best comedies and still holds a candle to so much today, forget garbage like knocked up,theres something about mary is still the daddy.br /br /br /
Theres something about this movie April 7, 2008 This movie is fantastic, full of unnecessary humour and great passion br /br /The story follows Ben stiller who in the start shows how he met Mary br /(cameron diaz) in high school and how he lost it all over a zipper br /malfunction! He hires a private detetive ( matt dillon) who looks her br /up in Miami, Florida he finds shes a seductive beautiful woman he lies br /to Stiller so he gets the gal br /br /Then stiller finds her himself, and the 2 guys compete for her love, and br /it turns out more then 2 men love Mary and will stop at nothing to take her br /br /This movie is a timeless unforgettably Farraly Brothers classic, with humour, wit, great acting, great sequences and one hell of a comedy!!br /
There's Something About This Film March 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There's Something About Mary is one of the funniest films of its kind and you have to admire how well it was made. Directed by the Farrelly Brothers and starring Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon, Chris Elliott, Lee Evans and Brett Favre; There's Something About Mary starts off in 1985 in Rhode Island where Ted (Ben Stiller) and Mary (Cameron Diaz) are teenagers. After 20 minutes or so, it goes to the present day where Ted hires Pat Healy (Matt Dillon) to track down Mary in Miami. Full of funny moments such as 'the hair gel scene' and the 'zipper scene', There's Something About Mary will keep you laughing throughout.
