Amazon.co.uk Review Depending on where you get your recommendations, you'll see ITeachers/I described as a comedy, a drama, an irresponsible depiction of the teaching profession and a (fairly) sympathetic reminder of how teachers are expected to be morally unimpeachable despite being ordinary human beings like the rest of us. In fact, it's all of the above, which perhaps does more for the show's realism than all its supposedly controversial elements put together. p The series stars Andrew (IThis Life/I) Lincoln as the feckless Simon, who, like several of his colleagues, is no more mature or advanced in terms of his ability to manage his own life than his pupils. The staff at the fictitious Bristol school are given to in-fighting, petty factionalism, bad behaviour, inappropriate nookie and dishonesty, both on and off-duty. That said, they also have to wrestle with professional and moral dilemmas and deal with their dysfunctional relationships: sometimes they succeed, often they don't. It makes for a superb, bittersweet concoction. If you want yet more social comment, it's worth noting that the series was filmed in a disused, empty LEA school. p BOn the DVD:/B ITeachers, Series 1/I bucks the take-it-or-leave-it convention of many television series releases by actually providing some interview material as part of this two-disc set. Simple extras such as this cost little enough to include and do at least add some value to the package. --IRoger Thomas/I

Teachers - Great viewing! January 29, 2005 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Having recently seen series 4 of Teachers, I felt compelled to view the previous three series. This DVD really is very funny, and great viewing! I was not disappointed. Laugh and enjoy!
Now we see what they're really like! January 15, 2005 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
'Teachers' wasn't a programme that i watched avidly when it was broadcast on television, but having heard loads of good things about it i decided to buy the first two series (before the release of the third) and check it out! The first time i watched them i was kinda pre-occupied with someone so wasn't really concentrating on it but then recently i watched it properly and really enjoyed it! Therefore, here is my review of the first series!br'Teachers' is about a group of young teachers who live their weekdays at 'Summerdown Comprehensive', a fictional school set in Bristol! Series One centres around Simon, an english teacher who spends most of his time discussing sex wish-lists with his mates and fellow employees, Kurt and Brian, and smoking in the school toilets whilst taking advice from his helpful friend Susan! When they're not trying to control and organise troublesome students in the day, they'll be found down at their local pub drinking! Their many similarities with the students, such as blunt laziness and constant smoking (mainly due to the limited age difference) makes for a brilliant comedy show!brThis show combines fantastic acting with great visuals, especially with its clever progression through each day of the school week! The characters are fantastically amusing and work well together (even more so in Series Two) and overall it truly shows what school teachers can really be like! Its simple yet full of laughs, and Andrew Lincoln and the rest of the cast really fit into their characters and you end up totally forgetting that its a television show! I'm a huge fan of alot of television comedy but this sits up there at the top with various others, basically because its abit cheeky, its simple, its clever and its different! Oh and also... you can't beat the odd random donkey! Definately a must-see so check it out!
We want more! June 16, 2004 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have all the DVD's of Teachers, and I just cannot get enought of it. Its a fantastastic programme, showing the lives of Teachers (whether their lives are really like that I dont know) but its still a good laugh, and the caracters are just brilliant. I cannot wait for the 3rd Season to be released!! Bring it on!!
Teachers.... June 1, 2004 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
if only this was around when I was at school, I would have realised that Teachers are human too. Whilst it's obviously fictional, this series is excellent. Bring on the new series!
Start of a golden era of television May 11, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Absolute class.... at the new price of under fifteen quid, it's just a mystery to me why more people aren't buying this.brFor anyone who's never watched Teachers, or anyone who missed series one, it's an absolutely essential buy. Ignore the first episode which is basically an introduction to the characters (and a quite badly written one in fairness) and you'll find seven further episodes (each one is about 45-50 minutes in length) of the absolute highest order. I sat and watched the lot in one very long, beer assisted night and went to work as the office zombie the subsequent day.... but it was worth it!
