I grew up with the Campion programmes and so have lots of fond memories of watching them with my family over the years. pFor those who are unfamiliar with the series, it followed the adventures of Albert Campion a sort of "freelance gentleman detective" and his manservant Lugg who joined his employ after serving at His Majesties pleasure for a number of years. pTogether they travel around East Anglia and London solving a series of baffling crimes ranging from gang murders to supernatural mysteries. Corney it may sound, but some of the stories are genuinely unnerving, such as the ghost story of "Look to the Lady" and all are rivetting. pPeter Davidson is perfectly cast in his role of the charming and witty hero, with Julian Glover providing the effective light relief. They make a wonderful double act and play out Margery Allingham's dryly humoured stories with great ease and style.pI cannot praise this DVD highly enough. It will give hours of entertainment to anyone who makes it part of their collection.
