British Comedy to beat ALL comers April 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
All potential new comers to the comedy scene would do well to use this as a training exercise in how important script writing, comic timing, delivery and atmosphere are to making a true timeless classic.br /br /Watch and learn, but if you have no interest in comedy writing yourself, then just watch and laugh - even more fun!!!
Classic Comedy August 19, 2005 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Chris Clark is an idiot. How can anyone say that eating porridge is better than watching this CRAP. This series and all the other series if this fool had half a brain was written by Dick Clement Ian La Franais (HELLO) Auf Wiedersehen Pet springs to mind.pThe episodes in series 3 are well written and perfectly acted. Anything with Ronnie Barker, Richard Beckinsale, Brian Wild Fulton Mackay is worth its weight in Gold, and not to be missed. So don't listen to a fool. Who most probably reckons Two Pints Of Lager and a Packet of Crisps is better. So take your head from out of your Arse and wipe the S#'t from your eyes!!
the final stretch.... February 10, 2004 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
Series three of Porridge shows the end of Lenny Godber's stretch and while the comedy is a strong as ever...you can see the system grinding Fletch down to a certain extent. brThere's nothing much to say that I haven't already written in my reviews of the first two series but this really is great comedy. While a lot of modern imported comedy dazzles you with quick switches between characters and locations with numerous plots intertwined (usually with a bewildering lack of coherence or success) this is thoughtful, paced comedy. Human nature will always be funny, and Porridge shows that wafer thin supermodels and obtrusive soundtracks do not comedy make...pThis DVD has no special features to speak of but it is the timeless comedy sells this DVD and nothing more....
best comedy ever! Mr Ronnie Barker October 1, 2003 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
classic comedy, not always comedy, locked up in a cell is not funney, the irriplacible Norman Stanley Fletcher and the usual characters make for a magic formula, top class writing, what can i say but buy now,you will not regret it,i never get fed up of watching this
The reason to have Uk Gold comes to DVD September 10, 2003 46 out of 46 found this review helpful
I'm not supposed to like Porrige, I'm just 20, I should be watching Friends (okay - pretty good) or The Simpsons (Excellent but frankly tired). But Porrige is like a perfect examlpe of what made British comedy the best in the world. Britain is built on a hardrock of wit, sarcasm, and 'the successful little man' - Porrige supplies it all. pThe only problem for me is that watching it makes me painfully aware of the minimal amount of genuine English comedy we produce now.
