Best of the whole series September 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my favourite Series of Teachers. With Simon (the main character) now taking a backseat, this series allows the other characters to develop. Most notibly Brian Kirk, who are like a Morecombe Wise double-act, getting the most laughs from this series.
I didn't think there could be any improvement.... August 25, 2004 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
After watching Teachers Series One, I didn't think there could be any improvement and I was cautious of watching series two just in case it wasn't as good. My fears were unfounded. Series Two is a million miles better than the thoroughly outstanding Series One. brSeries One featured Simon as the princpal character and the plot lines seemed to revolve around him. Don't get me wrong, Simon's great, but there is only so much you can stand of his whining, laziness and sheer incompetance. Series Two reconises this and Simon, whilst still being a main character, takes a step backwards to let the other character's stories come across. Indeed, Simon's utter incompetance and hatred of teaching is eclipsed by English NQT Penny who has had a boob job on hire purchase and knows nothing about literature or teaching.brPlot wise there are some cracking story lines ranging from: Kurt trying to dump Carol; Brian dealing with teaching Liz's lippy daughter; Susan falling out with Jenny over persistant naturist Alex, her new boyfriend; Simon finally doing the romantic thing that viewers have been waiting for and announcing his love for Susan, who turns him down flatly; Brian questioning his sexuality; normally sensible Susan acting first like a teenager in love and then like a child having a tantrum; Simon and Jenny united against Penny; Bob dressed like a pillock; Simon's departure; Matt's arrival; Susan sleeping with Brian; and Kurt getting back with Carol. Phew! I'm in the wrong profession methinks!brThis is definitely a fantasic buy. Roll on Third Series DVD and the fourth series on TV!
education has never been so interesting... December 1, 2003 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
I wish my teachers had been as amusing as this. I wish my school had been as amusing as this, but sadly, it wasn't. Still, this series has brought me endless entertainment, has brought some brilliant eye candy into my living room (the lovely Matt for example, who although is late to arrive in this series is a very welcome face nonetheless!!). The only series on Channel 4 to be commissioned for a third season - this speaks for itself. The writing is witty and the surreal additions to Summerdown School's days are entertaining to say the least (who let that donkey in, anyway?!). brThis is a must for any fan of the series when it was on TV, for any teacher who feels their job is getting them down (this will make you feel so much better about your pupils and your colleagues...) and for anyone who loves good British, well written, well thought out comedy - which is lacking in today's schedules which play host to an endless glut of American sit-coms, whose writing is not as good as this. pBuy it, sit back and enjoy - this is an investment and by no means simply a purchase.
Excellent November 8, 2003 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
If you liked the recently shown third series of Channel 4's comedy-drama Teachers, you'll love this. Featuring the original main character, Simon [Andrew Lincoln], plus other favourite characters that have left pre-third series, such as Susan and JP, this is funny and addictive. It also tells you about some of the beginnings of the characters, such as Penny, Brian and Kurt. Thoroughly enjoyable and well written.
Better than the first.... October 31, 2003 7 out of 21 found this review helpful
I began watching Teachers, as a kid of twelve, partway through the first series. It soon became apparent to me that Kurt and Brian, were far more amusing than watching Simon moan and whinge.brIndeed, as has happened over this series and the third, is that the other secondary characters have come to the fore. My favourite kurt, Bob, Brian, Liz, penny, the excrutiatingly smalmy Matt have all recieved the attention they deserve.brRachel and Jenny were vaguely diverting, as well as Simon. Admittedly, it was the acting calibre of these three that got Teachers off the ground, but when Simon left midway through this series, I was over the moon. And so, this is how Teachers came to be.brRidiculous, endearing, hilarious by turns. Sometimes, slightly moving; never for long. The characters are unforgettable. who can forget Kurt: The Funny one and the Plan man (who I am now compared to.) Brian: Endearingly stupid. Liz: the sarcastic scouser. Penny: the useless trainee. All welcome to a place on the pantheon of comic greats.brWhen certain charcters faded from the show, (notably Simon, Rachel and Jenny) there was a slight period of mourning, however, I'm sure that they'll return in due course. Siumon does return and I far prefer him as a supporting charcter than as the main.brCoupled with an outstanding soundtrack, great writers, brilliant cast and winning characters, Teachers is easily the best modern show in a very long time.brRoll on series four...(Altogether now...)brDe de de de de dede.....
