A Brit Gem May 25, 2008 None of your American cinematic polish - just real life British drama. The film starts with Jude Law's mates meeting up after his funeral. They watch a film Jude has made about the friends unbeknown to them, showing amongst other things their infidelity, lies and cheating. Watching the film makes uneasy viewing for the friends as warts and all, everything they would have wanted to keep secret is viewed by everyone. A clever idea and excellently executed by a fine set of Brit actors. Ray Winstone as mouthy and menacing as usual. Wonderful!
A mistake. April 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this film on rental after reading some of the other reviews. what a mistake, my wife and I gave the film about 25 minutes and then put it back into the packet and sent it back. Although peopled with well known actors they appeared to be having an off day. The filming was very much of the hand held type and in my opinion bad. If the film did have a story line it was hard to discern. The 25 minutes was hard going not entertainment, I suspect you have to be a follower of this genre to appreciate this film we did not.
Cutting Edge Cinema! September 7, 2005 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
Firstly, let me just stress that 4 stars for me makes this a very good movie; I don't just give out 5 star ratings for nothing! Secondly, i'm not even going to dignify any other reviews of this film, as they mostly criticise the acting and the low budget and basically miss the whole point of this stunning piece of brittish cinema. brFinal Cut, sets out to do exactly what it states in the movie, Jude Law' character "Jude" describes the film he makes in the movie as "Cutting Edge Cinema". This is exactly what the directors Burdis and Anciano have achieved, a movie that blurs the line between reality and fiction. If nobody had ever heard of Jude Law, Ray Winstone or Sadie Frost, then they could really believe that were actually watching a real slice of life. The acting, which may appear to be poor, is realistic to say the least. Each actor performs brilliantly, as their characters are forced through every drama and negative emotion imaginable, especially Ray Winstone, who gives the performance of a life time despite the ridiculous amount of swearing involved.brBasically the movie is about Jude Law's character "Jude", who has just died and released a secret video tape that he made about the lives of all his friends. They watch this video at his funeral, and thier friendships fall to pieces as they learn about how each of them has lied, deceived, cheated, stolen and much much more. The film is extremely vulger, yet intense and amazingly gripping. I first watched it when I was high, and I couldn't even believe what I was seeing. brThe film does appear to be very low budget, and the fact that it's English makes it even more gritty, but this is all intentional. Final Cut is meant to be so realistic that it could very well have happened, even the characters in the movie seem real as they are all named after the actors that play them, and seem to have very similar personalities too. So basically, I wouldn't reccommend this movie to young people, or to people who need an A-List cast and a $100,000,000 special effects budget to enjoy a movie. But I would recommend it to anyone seeking a harsh, realistic movie, with great performances and a top notch thrill factor.
The Final Cut October 24, 2003 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
A masterpiece, an absolute joy from start to finish. this is a showcase of British talent doing what they do best. An expose of the lives of a group of friends who, from the word go, seem to disregard the normal rules of friendship to pursue their own selfish agendas. However, there is a price to be paid, as each in turn must face the consequences of their actions. The duo of Burdis and Anciano, effortlessly move the story along with detailed snapshots of the past, whilst never losing sight of the tragedy of this particular spot on the human condition
The worst film ever????? WHY!!? September 28, 2003 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
I wrote a review about Love Honour and Obey also.brBoth of these film got worst movie of their year, and I really don't know why. I do not intend to compare this film to Ghandi or Lord of the Rings, but this is very brave cinema. Parts are improvised and way each of the friends gets shafted is very funny. Ray Winston is stunningly angry. There is no way this is the worst film ever. Even if I could see why people don't like it, which I don't, I would never say this is the worst film. There is nothing wrong with the acting and I say this because sometimes in real life the way people talk makes me cringe. I am sure that what people will agree with is that you need to watch the movie for yourself and decide, don't listen to any reviews. They are all wrong.
