One of the best comedies of recent years. And I'd like to clear up the point about the "laughter track" - no track has been added because I was at the recording of one episode. Believe me, the laughter is all spontaneous.

It has to be the best comedy series since The Good Life. I never tire of watcning it. I notice something new each time - and the links from one chapter to the next if amazing. The characters are so individual and believable - I feel I know them all personally. The first series was great, so good I've worn out the videos and sadly they're not available on DVD. I feel so sad that there won't be any more, but I take comfort in the thought that my DVD will last longer than the video - and i WILL be able to replace it. It is real 'comfort' viewing.

The show always had a laughter track. It's one of the few comedies where the laughter track added to the show, rather than being intrusive.pThe show was filmed in front of a live audience. In fact, Victoria Wood actually had each episode filmed twice, to make sure that the best overall performance was the one that was aired.pNo offence to the previous reviewer, but they are very, very wrong.

Please - PLEASE don't buy this until they reissue it without the added laugh track, which wasn't there in the original. It's wholly mechanical, done by someone pressing buttons and ruins the show. Victoria, you should be ashamed - if, of course, you actually know about it...

Less than 1 star. I had looked forward to this for years. But when the DVD arrived, what did I find? A MECHANICAL LAUGH TRACK! Sorry for shouting, but this has ruined a subtle and cumulative show for me. Victoria, if youre watching any of this, please stop it! Let us have the original show. PLEASE!!!
