This is a good monty python hits dvd. It has all the best sketches.All of them are good i especially like the party political broadcast from the liberal party. I aslo like it when they take the p out of the bbc. (p meaning you know what) The bishop is a also good one the best part being when you see the credits at the begining. But the favourite ones are also there the ministry of silly walks and the dead parrot sketch. The live at aspen is very good thought is was a good special featutre. All the best animation is there too with the i confess and the large killer cat and the baby carriage that eats people. All in all its a brilliant laugh and the other reviews giving it one star just becuase its not a full thing with 100 discs and 200 special features is just stupid its a good dvd for the price a great laugh and something to watch if you are knackard after a hard day aaaaaaaaah my writers cramp and give me a real parrot.br /br /.

If you are a casual python fan, who just likes the famous sketches that everyone knows about then this dvd is for you. If you are serious about comedy and love python then don't bother.pAll the sketches are shown totally out of context and lot's of brilliant sketches have been ommitted. Admittely this is not the fault of whoever put this package together, the whole point is that you cannot do the best of monty python. How can you reduce over 24 hours worth of material and do it justice in just 4 hours. It's not possible, and it is evident here.pThe material itself is 5 stars, the package is no stars, it's that simple. So if you want the real thing it's worth importing the mega set from america. It's region 0 so it plays in any dvd player, I have one and it plays in my region 2 dvd player. pWatching the episodes as they were meant to be seen is the only way to watch Python. And for anyone serious about comedy then Python is a must have. 90% of comedy that was made after python could not exist without it.

When i first heard of a TV series, i said 'I am going to buy that', but meh, i never got around to it.brSo when i saw this on Amazon i thought ill buy it, and i did funnily enough, ok then i am going to stop the banter bow.brIt is a quality box set, with some nice extras, there are 3 'best of'DVD's which are more or less 90 minutes each, and a 'Live at Asphen' DVD that has several documentarys on as well as a talk show with the Pythons.brThe DVD's are good, the best is the first one, but the second one is very good also with some excellant sketches, but the third one, although it has some good moments,its the worst of the three, but still nice to watch, but the 'Live At Asphen' DVD is boring after the first time you watch it, but the documentarys are pretty good.brThe first disc includes the Parrot Sketch,among other great ones,including my personal favourite The Fresh Fruit Sketch.brThe second disc contains the second series, which has the Blackamil sketch and the very funny Spanish Inquisition.brThe third one is beasically the third and fourth ones combined,which gives you an idea about how much 'padding out' there was.brIts a good quality bundle, and well worth the money, so in one word,BUT IT!!!!!!

This collection offers superb value for money. Do the math and it works out at under 6 pounds per DVD. pEach of the 3 "Best Of" DVDs are 90 minutes each and are packed with only the classic Python material. Much as I love the Pythons there was an awful lot of "padding out" in the TV series to make it run to 45 x 30 minute episodes (the last 6 without John Cleese). But the 4 and a half hours on offer here are the absolute best. pThe fourth "Live At Aspen" DVD is a real bonus though.pNot only do you get the hour long Live At Aspen show but also the 2 hours of new material which was made for the BBCs Python night back in 1999. These are a 50 minute "Its...The Monty Python Story" (presented by Eddie Izzard), a 30 minute "From Spam To Sperm (presented by Meat Loaf and about the band's musical career), 20 minutes of new sketches made in 1999, a 20 minute tour with Michael Palin through Pythonland (showing where the series was filmed)pWhich makes this collection something like 7 and a half hours long. Certainly great value for money.

My rating for this item has unfortunatley been hurt by BBC's poor editing of the 3 'best of' dvds. If they had included some other well known sketches and used actual editing skills, that they must have lurking somewhere, then I would have given this item a five star rating. I have to admit that the sketches included are of course funny and the live at aspen dvd is a welcome addition to the whole set. Although it seems that the 'best of volume one' dvd has some better skits on it, the second and third do have some 'gems' with 'the spanish inquisition', 'the ministry for silling walks' and the gumbys. Though the dvds are poorly edited I would recommend this item to anyone who,like me, bought a dvd player that only plays region 2 dvds and does not have the means or energy to go looking for new multi-regional player. This is because it is the closest us Brits will get to the 'Flying Circus' and something is better than nothing.
