Amazon.co.uk Review This film represents Hugh Grant's first big bid at Hollywood stardom, on the heels of the success of IFour Weddings and a Funeral/I. But he stumbled twice: first with this mundane comedy and then by being arrested after soliciting a prostitute near downtown Hollywood, the week before the film opened. Directed by Chris Columbus (IMrs. Doubtfire/I), INine Months/I was a weak reworking of a French film about an ageing bachelor (Grant) who can't decide whether to commit to the woman he loves (Julianne Moore). When she becomes pregnant, he still can't make up his mind and winds up blowing hot and cold on the subject of fatherhood, which causes tension in the relationship. There's a lot of low comedy involving Grant's best friend; Tom Arnold plays this ultra-married and child-ridden suburbanite, who makes fatherhood look like a living hell. Robin Williams has a funny cameo as a foreign doctor but in the end, the sentiment is ladled on and Grant doesn't have nearly enough funny material to work with. I--Marshall Fine/I

some hilarious moments April 29, 2008 There are some hilarious moments in this film ( for example hugh grant having a punch up with a man dressed in a dinosaur suit in a shop)but the writers failed to get the balance of romance and comedy right and at times the plot was a bit ridiculous and the storyline seemed abrupt and didn't really flow.Always an interesting film though and it was always going to be with great actors like hugh grant, julianne moore, jeff goldblum and robin williams involved.
French Version was better but this isn't bad June 23, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Nine Months" is a cute movie, but a tad bit predictable. Samuel (Hugh Grant)is a child psychiatrist whose beautiful longtime girlfriend Rebecca (Julianne Moore)announces her pregnancy. Samuel is soon in a panic because his perfect life is changing beyond his control. Not helping matters is his relationship with Marty (Tom Arnold), whose own wife Gail (Joan Cusack)is expecting another child. Marty is a constant pain in the butt that means well, but is a major annoyance to Samuel. His friend Sean (Jeff Goldblum)is of no help, either.br /br /You can pretty much see where the film ends up going: guy doesn't want to commit, girl gets upset and leaves, and guy gets a change of heart, realizing that he can't live without girl.br /br /When Rebecca goes into labor, a madcap dash through San Francisco ensues. Once at the hospital, they encounter more weirdness when Dr. Kosevich (Robin Williams)helps to deliver the baby. Problem is, his command of the English language (coupled with the fact that he never delivered a human baby) makes things even more crazy.br /br /Despite some predictability, "Nine Months," which is the American version of "Neuf Mois," the popular French film, is actually sweet and at some times touching (The scene when Samuel watches the tape of the ultrasound of his unborn child can bring a slight moisture to the eyes).br /br /Director Chris Columbus did a good job, though. The publicity surrounding Grant's Hollywood adventure didn't hurt either. Worth a look.
Funny and cute January 27, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Any expecting couple should enjoy this film, but even if a baby is not in the cards, you'll have fun with this one. Hugh is his clumsily-charming self, which makes you root for him, despite of himself. It deals with the male jitters of becoming a dad, and with hilarious scenes with a life-size Barney and the out-of-this world performance by Robin Williams as a Russian vet gone obgyn, all ends well, as a feel-good movie should. So, if you're a Hugh fan, or just like well-made comedies, you'll enjoy Nine Months for sure.
FANTASTIC HUGH November 22, 2004 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I thought this movie was fantastic, I'm a huge Hugh Grant fan!! He looks as gorgeous now as he did back then. It's a must see movie for all genders, from those expecting to those who want to expect. Carry on Hugh!!
Yes it's a feel good film! October 11, 2004 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Yes it's cheezy, yes it's feel good, but if you're just looking for a film to wash over you and for you to enjoy snuggled up with someone or a night in with a good cup of tea this is it.brThe jokes are cheezy and a bit predictable but they do make the movie what it is. If you're a pregnant couple you should definetly watch this!brTo summarise the plot Sam (Hugh Grant) doesn't want kids, even though he is a child psychotherapist. He then finds that his girlfriend is pregnant and the film basically revolves around him trying to except it. I won't spoil the ending!brYou don't need to work on this film to watch it. But if you just want a film to make you smile this is it.brRobin Williams character of a russian obstetric doctor is brilliant. and as a student nurse myself I just really enjoyed this film.
