Amazon.co.uk Review
IStuck on You/I finds those fun-loving Farrelly Brothers in a feel-good mood, delivering a tame, kind-hearted comedy that even your grandma could enjoy. That's a big change from the seminal "hair gel" of IThere's Something About Mary/I, but the codirecting Farrellys have genuine affection for Bob and Walt (Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear), conjoined twins who are the owners and short-order cooks at a Martha's Vinyard burger joint. When amateur actor Walt decides he wants to make it in Hollywood--where he lucks into a star-making TV role with Cher (who gamely plays herself in this light Hollywood satire)--Bob has no choice but to go along. p Separation surgery is risky, so most of IStuck on You/I milks mild laughs from the brothers' intimate connection, especially when Bob finds love with a pen-pal (Wen Yann Shih) who's initially unaware of Bob's brotherly predicament. Once again, the Farrellys score big points for their progressive acceptance of differences; several minor roles are played by physically or developmentally disabled actors, and it's a consistently commendable aspect of the Farrellys' comedic worldview. Other, more conventional rewards include Eva Mendes (and her ample cleavage) as a bubbly show-biz wannabe, Seymour Cassel as Walt's old-school agent, and Meryl Streep--yes, Meryl Streep--showing good sportsmanship in a glorified cameo. IStuck on You/I is dispensable comedy, but you can't knock it for good old-fashioned brotherly love. --IJeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!!!!!   February 9, 2008

I normally hate so-called "funny" movies. I just don't find them funny at all. Stuck on you, though, had me in tears of laughter from the first scene and I had a sore stomach from laughing at the end. Having Greg Kinnear in one of the leading roles and I am sold. I loved his character in As Good As It Gets - he is the funniest guy and whenever I see his face i crack up! Matt Damon is not quite as funny but with his amazing acting he is great in this role. I doubt that this film would have been as funny with any other actors in these roles. There was fantastic chemistry between the two.br /This film was a perfect mix of childish funny and clever funny - I was blown away by the clever choreography when the two twins fight, dance etc. Also subtle and funny use of computer-enhancing effects. In all a totally endearing film that I just fell in love with.br /

4 out of 5 stars AN UNDERRATED COMEDY   August 30, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Bob (Matt Damon) and Walt (Greg Kinnear) are conjoined twins (joined at their lower trunks--they share a liver) from Massachusetts. They own a burger joint named "Quickie Burger" and Walt has a love of acting. Walt decides to move to California to try his luck at the big time, and although Bob is initially reluctant, he also has a beautiful "Internet pal" in California who he's been talking to for more than three years.br /br /Compared to some of directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly's other films, such as Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary, and Me, Myself And Irene, we could say that the humor in Stuck On You is much more subtle. That fact may be off-putting to viewers who come to Stuck On You primarily as fans of the Farrelly Brothers' previous work. There are still outrageous gags here, but they tend to be funnier if you exercise your intellect a bit, and believe it or not they are more rooted in reality than some other Farrelly Brothers films. If you are familiar with Daisy and Violet Hilton's story, for example--they were infamous sideshow performers who were conjoined twins--you'll note similarities, such as how they approached relationships with persons of the opposite sex.br /br /Like much of the Farrelly Brothers other work, however, Stuck On You is as heartwarming as funny, and on one level, it's primarily a very odd romance film. It also seems that perhaps this is the most personal of their films so far, and it may very well be a depiction of their love for each other as brothers. That also gives Stuck On You a slightly more serious edge, but one that works very well. This is a quality drama in addition to being a comedy leaning towards absurdism. That may sound like a strange combination, but it flowed smoothly for me as a viewer.br /br /The performances by Damon and Kinnear are on target, and their love interests, May (Wen Yann Shih) and April (Eva Mendes) are intriguing and not at all cliched. The extended cameos by Cher and Meryl Streep, as themselves, are very entertaining, and the supporting cast is excellent.

4 out of 5 stars Touching comedy   January 18, 2007

This is a touching and rather moving gentle comedy starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as Bob and Walt Tenor, a pair of conjoined twins who are determined to live normal lives to the full despite their condition and the consequent lengths they have to go to support each other's very different ambitions. Walt is the extrovert who wants to be an actor and comedian: Bob is introverted and shy, though a keen sportsman.br /br /As young children Walt and Bob had made each other a promise that neither of them would ever try to hold the other back, and the film is about the lengths they have to go to to keep that promise. At the start of the story they are running a successful fast food outlet in Martha's Vineyard, but early on Walt persuades Bob that they should move to Hollywood to follow Walt's ambition to become a film star. At first nobody takes them seriously, but through a ludicrous series of chances Walt does get a chance at a TV role, and then the difficulties really start. br /br /While Walt is trying to build an acting career, Bob is trying to find romance with his internet pan pal, played by Wen Yann Shih, who is unaware of the fact that he is half of a set of conjoined twins.br /br /Although the film does not shy away from occasional, mostly gentle, jokes about the consequences of the twin's condition, I did not feel that this film was cruel about conjoined twins or people with disability generally. The film was far more scathing about people who saw the brothers as freaks. It presents them as a pair of regular guys who are coping heroically with an unusual set of circumstances.br /br /The rest of the cast was superb. Several Hollywood or TV personalities play themselves, including Cher, Meryl Streep, and Jay Leno - Cher in particular has some outrageous scenes taking the mickey out of herself. Eva Mendes, looking stunning, gives a lift to the film as a cheerful wannabee actress who becomes a supportive friend of the brothers.br /br /There are a few weak or embarrassing moments but overall this is a moving and entertaining film with some very funny moments, and I can recommend it.br /

4 out of 5 stars Very funny   January 12, 2006

I think a lot of the previous reviews have analysed this film in more depth than I can understand and they've taken apart the structure of the film and diagnosed what has made previous films by the directors succesful and where this one has went wrong....pbut I just wanted to add, its funny! A good film to watch just to have a laugh. Nothing clever or deep about it. pJust a good film.

5 out of 5 stars Gives new meaning to "buddy system"   January 5, 2006

The Farrelly brothers have a knack for producing films (SHALLOW HAL, DUMB AND DUMBER, KINGPIN) about awkward subjects in a manner such that they'd be taken to task for political incorrectness if the results weren't so funny.pIn STUCK ON YOU, Bo (Matt Damon) and Walt (Greg Kinnear) are the owners of a Martha's Vineyard burger joint in which they also do the cooking. This doesn't sound like the basis for much of a plot except that Bo and Walt are twins conjoined above the hip. They share a liver, most of which belongs to Bo - a situation that has so far caused them to reject the surgical separation that would perhaps endanger Walt's life. In any case, they'd decided long ago that their condition wouldn't hold them back. So, when Walt announces that he wants to go to Hollywood and become an actor, Bo decides to go along (so to speak). Of apparent benefit to Bo is that his internet girlfriend, May (Wen Yann Shih), lives in Los Angeles. There are problems though. Bo has acute stage fright, and he's never even told May that he has a brother. Walt, however, firmly believes that everything will work out. He even suggests that Bo can be his stunt double so he, Walt the Star, won't get hurt.pWhile watching this clever and highly entertaining comedy, I was impressed by the amount of movement choreography and rehearsal that must have been necessary for Damon and Kinnear to act in concert in some very intricate ways. This is apparent as we watch the twins cook-up six burgers in 3 minutes to meet their restaurant's standing promise ("Food in 3 minutes, or it's free!"), play baseball, ice hockey, and football, slow dance with dates, and beat up on a a group of harassers. Then there's the bit when they get into a fist fight with each other that's worth the price of admission.pSeveral screen personalities appear as themselves, most notably Cher and Meryl Streep. The former pokes great fun at her real life public persona. In my opinion, Cher is to be admired and applauded for evidently not taking herself too, too seriously. I can't imagine most of Tinseltown's prima donnas taking similar swipes at their overblown images.pAwhile ago, I saw CALENDAR GIRLS, to which I granted five stars simply because it was unpretentious, pure entertainment that left me completely satisfied and with a grin on my face. At the risk of cheapening the 5-star rating, I'm awarding STUCK ON YOU the same. It's not a great film and likely won't be nominated for any Oscars but, you know, great good fun in any form shouldn't be over-analyzed by snobbish reviewing. Life is too short.
