5 out of 5 stars The Damned at their Best !   June 23, 2006

Another superb DVD release (2 disc) from the Damned, following on from the excellent Tiki Nightmare. This is a "Machine Gun Etiquette" 25th anniversary show at the Manchester Academy in front of a packed house.br /br /This band just gets better and better. The line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Monty, Pinch and new bassist Stu is probably the strongest yet, giving a performance that would put most bands half their age to shame.br /br /They play most of the Machine Gun Etiquette album (obviously) and other songs that span their career from New Rose, Neat Neat Neat, I Fall, through History of the world, Curtain Call, Ignite, Eloise, to newer songs like Would you be so hot, Absinthe and Magic potion.br /br /Picture and sound quality are excellent, even better than the Tiki Nightmare DVD. br /The extras on the second DVD are also brilliant. A 13 song live Damned show from Japan 2004 is included, as are highlights of shows from a US tour. Behind the scenes tour footage is amusing and worth watching and some rare early Damned footage is also included.

This dvd is a must have for any punk/Damned fan. I have only one complaint... WHERE'S PLAN 9 CHANNEL 7 ?? Did i miss it? You also could have put on the videos that were made for Plan 9 Smash it up, (i guess that's two complaints... anyway, if you don't like The Damned you can always use this dvd as a strobe light.

The definitive DVD of the ultimate punk band. pSomeone once said: "The first rule is that there are no rules"...Well, with Machine Gun Etiqette 25, The Damned prove that with style on this latest DVD release.pThe live gig, part of a tour which celebrated the 25th anniversary of one of contemporary music's all time classic albums "Machine Gun Etiquette", is confirmation that the Damned, now in their 30th year, are as relevant, if not more relevant, in 2006 as they were in 1976. It features the band at their very best - underrated, never understated and giving their all for the crowd!pThe line-up comprises David Vanian (Vox), Captain Sensible (Guitar God, back where he belongs!), Pinch (Drummer extraordinaire), Monty Oxymoron (Psychedelic keyboard king)and new recruit Stu (Bass Maestro). This is possibly their best line -up ever, and believe me, I've seen them all!!pRecorded in front of an appreciative, manic audience at the Manchester Academy, the band played almost the whole of the Machine Gun Etiquette album, alongside other classic tracks, old and new - ranging from their first single "New Rose" to one of my personal favourites "Would you be so hot (if you weren't dead)" a biting 'tribute' to J. Lennon, esq.pOnce glance at the shots of the crowd confirm that this band have the most amazing and broad ranging appeal - fans who wouldn't have even been born when the MGE album was originally recorded go wild alongside Goths, EMO's (I just cant be happy today - ha!) and the die hard 'fangbase'. pIn addition to the Manchester gig, there are THREE HOURS of extra footage, including: a fifty minute live performance from Japan recorded in 2004: a thirty minute live performance from a USA west coast gig in 2001 (featuring Patricia Morrison on bass); a thirty minute 'featurette' showing high jinks on tour Damned-syle; and a whole host of amusing extras contributed by the band.pThis is possibly the best live music DVD I have ever bought. If you buy one DVD this year, buy "Machine Gun Etiquette 25" . If you see one live band this year - see The Damned - You wont regret it - tell 'em Pedro Cutthroat sent ya! pOh, and dont forget to visit their website (officialdamned.com), and join the message board regulars - we're a wild and wacky bunch!
