The most underappreciated show in the US March 4, 2007

With an electrical crackle, a bare light bulb illuminates the black white "neutral space" of Christopher Titus. "The Los Angeles Times states 63% of American families are now considered dysfunctional," he says. "That means we're the majority. We're normal. It's the people who've had the mom, dad, brother, sister, little white picket fence; those people are the freaks." And guess what? He's right.br /br /This is the raw, edgy, semi-autobiographical dark sitcom that was considered too real to stay on the air as it rightly should have. Based on the standup comedy "Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding" by Christopher Titus, the series is told primarily through Titus's point of view and revolves around him and his dysfunctional family.br /br /Titus himself tries to shrug the "wussy" stigma bestowed by his father by running his own hot rod shop,br /but there's also his girlfriend Erin (Cynthia Watros - "She's got that Irish temper, but she's Northern Irish, so we don't fight; she just puts a... bomb in my car. Isn't she great? Beautiful, proactive...");br /his childish, clueless adopted brother Dave (Zack Ward - "Dave, you've been living with [Dad] since you were 8, you ARE scarred for life");br /his father Ken (Stacy Keach - "My father never missed a drink, a joint, a party, or a chance to get laid his life");br /and his flamboyant best friend Tommy (David Shatraw - "Tommy is the most anal, detail-oriented, anal human being on the planet").br /There's also his manic-depressive schizophrenic mother who was "admitted to a mental care facility, or, as Dad so eloquently put it: 'Son, your mom is shacked up in the whacko-basket.'" Accidentally ironically, the actress who plays the mother changes every time, and it always works out.br /br /Each episode begins with Titus giving an account of his life in the "neutral space". The events are done as closely to real-time as possible, interspersed with comments from the "neutral space" and flashbacks to his childhood.br /br /There are six discs comprising 33 episodes of seasons 1 2, commentaries on selected episodes, an interview with Christopher Titus, and rehearsal footage. Included also is a booklet containing "Notes on Titus Family" by "Dr. Sylvia Schultheiss Doctor of Psychology" that not only describes the five main characters, but also short blurbs on each episode. Rather than subtitles, this is closed-captioned.[...]
